Haven't seen many H/K or any users on here, but maybe some can help regarding heat temps at normal play. I have the H/K 430 running Polks listed below with the front and center on large crossed at 60hz and the rears as small. I know that running the front and center as large will put more strain on the AVR, but I never had this much heat on my previous AVR's. On low volumes just watching normal Directv for an hour or so will produce a nice hand warmer. AVR is in a semi closed cabinet with proper ventilation.

dont know much about h/k recievers, but it seems that with the speakers you have, the reciever should not be struggling. I would

a)set mains and center to small and see if you have the same problem.

b)are you sure its properly ventilated. does your rack have a glass door and covering on the back (with small holes for wires), if so, might need a little fan) a pic of the set up might be a little handy here.

c)if anyone has experience using h/k, do they usually get hot after an hour of low level listening?, since i never owner an h/k, i really couldnt tell you, but at first glance, it doesnt seem right.

my rotel can get pretty hot at times, but only if i am really giving it a workout (high level listening) for hours at a time (3+)

I have had a couple of HK receivers (AVR 120, HK3375) and I think they just run warm. It is surprising to me that, as big as those AVRs are (there has got to be alot of room in that box when you consider how tall HK rcvs are), they don't run cooler, but I was always surprised that they ran so warm. But I never had a problem with them either.

Interesting, looks like they went back to fanless design after the *25 series. I doubt there is anything wrong with your receiver, but you might think about putting it somewhere else besides a cabinet if you are going to run it till it gets hot all the time

Both of the H/Ks that I own run warm to very warm. The 7000, when first acquired was actually having clipping problems and shut down once while in an entertainment center. Moving it to an open rack solved this problem. Even in the open it is too hot to touch after extended, heavy use. I think it's just normal for them, especially considering their high current, honestly rated power output.

Thanks for everybodys help, Glad to see that the H/K's run warm, and I don't have a defective unit. I guess I will have a project today and run a inlet and outlet fan in the cabinet for greater air circulation. Overall I am happy with the AVR 430 match with the polk Rti's.
