Should we be concerned for any Polkies in this area?
Snohomish is popular Sunfire Carver territory.
Plus we have a few Wa state Polkies here.

I'm quite a ways south but prayers sent for the victims. Scary stuff....

Every Polkie I know isn't from that area, although it's only 45 minutes north of me. Seebee Rob is the only one I know of from Everett, which is still West of the slide.

I don't know of any members that live out that way. Oso is by no means a metropolis.

And unfortunately its not a town anymore either Such a tragedy for those folks. Don't see how you can have enough warning in a mudslide, aside from the fact of heavy rain. Anytime you live on the side or base of a mountain, can you not expect sooner or later a mudslide, rock slide, flooding ?
Terrible it happened as fast as it did, they didn't have a chance. Looking at the aerial pics though, I can see why it did.
Sometimes I look in amazement at the people who build houses along a fault line in California, then wonder why their house splits in half. It's a risk anytime you live close to natures ever changing landscapes....beautiful as it is. Hope they find some still alive under the rubble.HT SYSTEM-

I use to be of the mind that people were dumb for building their houses in areas that were high risk. Why would anyone build their house on the side of a mountain or on a fault line???
Then a few years ago we started to travel alot more and see different parts of the world, and I can see why they do it. After visiting much of California and the west coast and places like Hawaii and New Zealand I can see the appeal. We were in Hawaii last year on the big island, and on the east coast they keep rebuilding these little towns near the edge of the lava flow. They will have an eruption that will wipe out an existing village and then they'll just build a new town right on the edge of the lava, knowing that the process will repeat itself eventually. You may stand there looking at it and wonder why, then you turn around and look at the view of the ocean they have and realize...THAT'S why!
Sure there's a risk, but if I the option of building a house in Yosemite Valley (knowing that earthquakes happen and there was a risk of one taking me out at some point) I'd be all for it. The view from my house though and the awesome environment I'd always have immediate access to is well worth the risk that I'm by living there. -
Living up there for most of my life, I don't think I would've considered that place high risk for a giant mudslide. There was a much larger risk of the river flooding, but not a large part of a mountain letting go.
I used to head that way quite a bit to go fishing, it was a nice area.My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself. -
its about 35 minutes from me, used to go camping there every summer, and its about 15 minutes from my grandma. talking to my father, it is worse than the news is reportin it.2 Channel(work in progress):DAC: Schiit modi 2 uberAmp:Parasound 1200 MK IISub:RBH 1010-SEP Speakers: Monitor 5A peerlesscurrently running some krk rokit 3g since the HK pre outs died and i need to start breaking everything down to move in a couple monthsHeadphones:Source: tidalDAC: schiit modius epre: schiit sysAmp: AQ dragonfly black/ schiit magni2 Cans: Velodyne V-True, Grado SR225i, sennheiser x drop gaming headsetPC:DAC: schiit modius e(over spdif)pre: schiit sysspeakers: prenous eris 5 xtSub: Earthquake Sound MiniMe-P63most of my comments are passing on of info, im a noob, im just trying to help how i can, if im wrong or out of place to comment, dont hesitate to let me know "WITH WILLING HEARTS AND SKILLFUL HANDS, THE DIFFICULT WE DO AT ONCE, THE IMPOSSIBLE TAKES A BIT LONGER, WITH COMPASSION FOR OTHERS.
