Marantz 1150

Classic stuff. I owned a 1150d new I bought on closeout in 1977.
I sold it a year later, since I already had a Sansui 8080 sitting
back home in the states. I really missed it and regretted selling it.
Fast forward to current. I make a trip over to Dallas vintage audio
and walk through. If you have never been there, It always has some interesting
stuff. And you can start up a conversation for hours with other patrons.
They had a classic Euro black front Sansui 2285b. It was a thing of beauty.
So as I'm talking with the owner, I say something about having fond thoughts of
my old Marantz,, and he shows me a 1150 (not a D) sitting on the floor in back.
A few nicks and missing a balance control. We make a deal for as is.
two hours later, after a couple of talks with some other guys on JBL212's,
A Nak system one, I get home and the fun beings. The balance control is
going to be hard to find, so I just jumpered it out. I still have the knob, so
if I ever decide to install a 50k balance slider, I'm all set.
As promised, everything seems to work well. I let it run all day today, and it sounds
good. I'm thinking of replacing the remote speaker connections with a terminal strip
so I could use my AQ speaker cables. The case top got a new paint job, and it
looks pretty good. The slider is still an issue, but other than that and a couple
small faceplate nicks, all is good. It wasn't a garage sale price, but still pretty
reasonable. That place always has some temptation sitting around. He has
hauled a lot of his "to do" pile to storage so he has room to walk around in back now.
And another place opened in the same plaza selling other vintage stuff, including albums!
Double the fun.

That's dangerous for both of us!
There always seems to be a couple of active vintage guys standing around.
Most of them will talk to anyone on the subject. My issue is I'm not supposed to be buying
anything like that right now. The Mrs. is a bit pissed.
I said something to the owner about Nakamichi, and he knew someone with a system one for sale.
Not a bad price on it, either. That's where things get really bad. Then you go home and have the
image of one of those bouncing around in your head all night. That's a real showpiece of vintage gear.
Here's a picture for anyone who's never seen one.

Congratulations on your find. Sounds like a place where most here would enjoy going. Wish we had more up here in these parts. LMAO about the Mrs's-but we all know thats not too funny,as we've been there too. Enjoy the new addition & may it bring back good memories..
