Just got my new RTi70 and CSi40's set up. With the tuner, cd and vhs everything sound great. But with the DVD I am getting a slight crackling or buzz noise from the front speakers (RTi70's) which is not heard in the center or rears. Anyone have an suggestions on what it might be or how to get rid of it. I am running RCA's from the DVD to my tuner if that might make a differnce. The tuner is a couple year old Yamaha RX-V620 (I paid about $800 or so for it).

Is the CD source you mention your DVD player?

    First thought was...

*does he have a Yamaha receiver?*

    Sure enough he does...

Plug the surrounds up to the mains, and see if it follows the surround speakers. Yamaha has a problem in dvd mode for the main speakers, mine had it, and so did many others. Just a thought.

Yes it is the DVD player. My separate CD player does not have the issue. I never noticed it before. My last pair of main speakers were some lower line Kliphs. I am surprised to be noticing this now. Maybe the new Polks are just more sensative.

    I doubt it's the Polks...

Just to be sure we're on the same page. CD's in your dedicated CDP are fine, but played in your DVD player have problems... yes?

How many IC's connect your DVD player to your AVR? 5?

Yes that is correct. My dedicated CDP is fine.

There are only three wires that come out of the DVD. A red and white rca plug for sound and a third yellow one for videa. If this is the potential source of the problem, I will go by optical cables or S-video cables. However, I don't want to spend the money if I am not pretty sure this is the issue.

    Have you tried this test?

    Tour-
I havn't tried anything on the Yamaha. I sold it a long time ago, it just had a bad problem with DVD's. When nothing was going on, there was static *just in the mains*. No where else.

It also followed to my friends house that bought it off of me..

I have plugged various speakers up to the Yamaha, KLH, Polk RT35i, RT25i -- it all was the same result.

Yes. It is still there but at a much lower level. It is so much lower, that I hadn't noticed it previously. I guess that mean the Polks get a fuller sound.

So, what do you suggest short of getting a new reciever. Should I get better cable or optical cable, or s-cable?

    Sid,
I was really asking sb if he'd acted upon your suggestion. Does his reply above resemble your experieince?

It sounds to me like a processor issue and that a swap to a digital IC is not a solution, but I am perplexed that it was not an issue with his previous speakers.... Unless...

    sb,
Where are you typically running the master volume now compareed to when you had Klipsch mains? Are the Klipsch still around?

I am running it about the same volume. This sound can be heard through the Polks at lower volumes as well as higher volumes. Yes I have the Kliphsch around still. I am using them as rear surround speakers. I have hooked them back up as mains and like I said earlier, and if I strain I can hear the sound through the Klipsch. It is still there with the Klipsch but it is low enough that I didn't notice it when I was using the Klipsch as my main speakers over the past 3 years.
