I'm gettin' there

So finally got my office system somewhat pieced together and thought I would share a few pics. I have all the power cables running through the cable management in the rack and nothing but the signal cables are outside. The IC's are routed as best they can be given the situation.

EVERYTHING in the office is connected to the APC unit and I still have room for more if I wanted. That was the last piece of gear I was looking for. I picked it up for 80 bucks locally earlier this week and couldn't be happier.

The amp's location must be up that high as it will only fit there due to its depth and the depth needed for Dougs cables pigtails. I actually kinda like it that high up. Lets me isolate it from any other signal cables easier.

I will try to get some better pictures tomorrow, but its late and both my wife and daughter are asleep and keeping the lights on to take pics would wake them up.

Also note that I ended up placing the TT on the lower shelf. Not sure if it will stay there as I would like to mount it above the computer on a custom bracket possibly.

**Please Note** I plan to do better with the speaker cables but currently they are not long enough to reach my left speaker without running it like I did. I also plan to space them out wider as I have the room and toe them in slightly as well as add back the spikes I took off as I didnt want to spike them till I had a better idea where they were going.

The Chain:
Digital Source: Computer via Black Cat Veloce Coaxial cable to Cambridge Audio DacMagic w/ Pangea Powersupply
Analog Source: Project Debut III
Pre Amp: Sunfire TGP-II
Power Amp: Parasound HCA-750ii
Speakers: Polk RTA 11TL
Speaker Cables: Douglass Connection 9 gauge demo set
Interconnects: Douglass Connection demo's
Power Conditioning: APC H15

I musta not hit submit last night lol......

Its a Antec P182 in gunmetal. I love it because it paired with my Noctua fans are dead silent up until about 1cm from the case.

If you are looking for a great case to keep things quiet... yeah Antec's Performance series is where it is at.

I also added layers of Acoustimat to the cabinet as well for additional dampening and have been slowly moving to a mostly passive system (GPU) with fans on a automatic fan controller programmed to keep it at certain temps within the case.

Makes for a very nice and quiet system.

It looks great! But what can you actually hear when you're sitting at the desk? Those towers aren't exactly near field monitors. Most of the sound is going past you.

I have some KLH 17s (a large vintage bookshelf) on my side desk with a vintage receiver and a Technics TT and CDP attached that I sometimes use in my office, but I find that I need to sit almost SIX feet back to actually hear stereo from the speakers. Any closer when listening to vinyl, sucks. The field collapses!

Indeed.... I was thinkin' that he should have 'em up on that desk, toed in a little... like big headphones ;-)

I like the vintage, venerable (and HF-challenged) original AR-3 nearfield (FWIW).

LOL… yeah, I took the pics about 11:30 with my kid asleep about 10 feet behind me and my wife knocked out as well. I didn’t have time to really ensure the camera & tripod were level lol….

So fella’s, I agree with all your comments. The speaker are nearfield and not setup to listen to when sitting at my desk……

But this isn’t “it”, hence the title “I’m getting there”…. I have some idea’s on how I want to set things up in the future, and normally I will be listening at the halfwall (see pics), so I am normally going to be 8 feet back or more. I also don’t have the speakers laid out perfectly at this point.

The end game is to replace the 23” monitor I have now with something like a 46” TV wallmounted and keep the 23” monitor to mount to the sidewall on a articulation mount so I can pull it about 5” from my face while sitting in a recliner at the back wall, which isn’t “really” the backwall.

Here are some more pics of the setup during the day so you can see things better.

Here is the opening behind the half-wall

And here are some additional pictures of the rack in the daylight. I am most proud of the cable management.

And because someone asked, here is a better pic of the computer .

Nice pics Dan, but I digress....would much prefer the desk on the half wall. Why ?

So when you read comments by F1NUT or George Grand you can spit coffee over that wall onto unsuspecting people below.

    @mrbiron:

I will get LOTS more crap on my walls, but I am taking it step by step.

Thinking about some small floating shelves to show off my Halo stuff, and of course leaving room for some sound panels in the room.

@Skip, hadn't thought of that. Will have to check it out. I will say the system downstairs is VERY easy to here up here and quite loud.

I have my 11T's in almost the exact setting, though I think I may be sitting a bit farther back, and that is exactly how it can sound. Right in the middle of the soundstage, still with surprising depth.

But I roll back quite a bit to sit, relax, and listen with any amount of critical ears.

I have built three rigs in that Antec.... highly recommended, especially for a PC-based listening situation.

I plan on getting some sort of chair/recliner/lovseat to put on the halfwall when I am "really" listening.

I am still playing with apps on my Android for controlling XBMC so I can control the music without getting up. I can also just use the keyboard and mouse since they are wireless, but the phone option just would be a bit easier since the screen is not easily readable at that distance.....

Its honestly not that hard. Give me a call and we can discuss your "options". Very easy to do this on a budget.

Literally get your music on a computer, buy a Squeezebox Classic (found for ~150 on ebay) and you've got a pretty good start for your system. With your Pioneer you got IIRC you can actually use it instead of the Squeezebox IIRC, so its even CHEAPER!

I can help you get there. I've already helped Jeff (indyhawg) and Jonathan (bored184) and Travis (trav0810) get started and they are all loving it .
