After getting very mixed reviews about the Vector Research receiver at GoodWill I decided to pass. I did remeber a C/L ad for a couple of receivers. I mailed the guy and the Kenwood was gone but this Nikko 6065 receiver was still available. This receiver is beautiful and the reception and tuner function is about 50x better than the Sony it's replacing which hit the dumpster a few minutes ago. Again even if the reviews were better like 9000 people handled the VR unit and it's case was scratched up. This a wipe and it's good to go and is playing right now. I thought I going to go for a stand alone tuner but this came up and is a little more versitle. Price, originally listed for $50 he went for $40 and was in the next town over.

I actually lusted over a few Nikko pieces back in the 80's. There was some good stuff through Nikko. I have now idea why it didn't take hold better...

I have no experience with Nikko receivers or integrated amps, but I did own a number of Nikko separates in the 1980s and 1990s, including their rare Alpha 2000 dual-mono 330 W.P.C. flagship amp. Their amps were very underrated. I compared the Alpha 2000 directly against a few high end audiophile amps, and it held its own extremely well, sounding more effortless and musical. I've always felt like kicking myself for selling it.

Nice amp. There are a number of Japanese manufacturers that flew under the radar back then. I remember buying my sister a Nikko Walkman when she visited me in NYC in the '80s. A very nice unit, even had TWO headphone jacks, metal tape select, good response.

That 6065 seems to be 34 watts x 2 at 8 Ohms. But as we all know, receivers from that time can PUMP. I have a JVC JR-S201 that I can never slide the volume past 1/3. And that's only 35 watts x 2.

I have to tell you guys after just an hour or so of listening I don't know why there wasn't more demand for the brand. This looks and plays like a Fisher #500 w/ great bass and even the tip of the tuner pointer still lights up. I h/u my cd player through the aux. port and that worked great as did the headphone jack. This receiver is actually showing the limitations of my JBL-2060 bookenders,they can't be pushed all that far. That Nikko power amp was gorgeous and would take that in a heartbeat. The Sony that made a quick trip to the dumpster was a STR-D590 had no speaker outs so I used the audio out jacks and had a very lame pre of sorts.
So now the bdrm set up is the Nikko 6065 receiver, Panasonic RV-32 cdp, and JBL-J2060 bookies.....

Interesting, I run some JBL 2600s that are VERY similar to yours on the JVC above. I had to replace the titanium dome with a VIFA treated fabric dome from Parts/Express that was a good spec match. Let me tell you, the VIFA really opened that speaker up, more detail, images better, wider field. And still some nice bass from the 6 1/2" woofer (JBLs strength, IMHO).

Looks good to me. Almost certainly a better choice; Nikko was sort of second-tier, but they made some fine tuners and some pretty good separates, too. Their receivers are perfectly decent in the 1970s "massmarket Japanese" mode (my hardly humble opinions only, of course).

Doc I'll take your opinions any day. The receiver on the bottom left of the ad is close but not a match and mine does not have a NR designation anywhere and are probably a newer line up. It does have very quite control knobs ,spring loaded mute buttons, and the pop out type of selector buttons kinda like the old Plymouth Fury transmission. This model is more than likely middle of the Nikko pack for the year it was sold.

Looks like it... the scan I posted is the only Nikko info I have handy... if I find that particular model, I'll let you know.
If you haven't checked, take a gander at www.hifiengine.com and see if they have docs for it.

I used to have a Nikko receiver in the mid-80's.
At that time, the Japanese brands had gone to those awful
bubble button fronts. The Nikko ran pretty good. It ran rings around
the 1st HT receiver I bought.

That's the one for sure. Pretty funny that it's going for a BIN price of $75 w/ shipping of almost $52. I did not open mine up but it is just as clean on the outside as the advertised one. There is 1 really small blemish if you will on the facia, the surrounding silver piping has a little notch so it's not a museum piece but close. I think it's 34 watts a side and has more than enough power for a bedroom or smallish den.

I think this was the model I had. I was just about as good as the Denon
units at the time and cheaper. The Pioneer stuff in 1984/85 were complete poo.
