NAD 2600a

Well guys/gals ... my NAD 2600a has the issue where at low volumes (very very low volumes only) one channel will turn off. I read online that this is a common problem with this model amp and that a relay replacement will fix this issue. Any recommendations on what I could possibly upgrade while I have it taken apart, or maybe just simple maintenance to help extend the life of this amp?

Simple maintenance in replacing power supply caps, coupling caps (does it have them?), and anything electrolytic will put some pop back in the amp, and greatly extend its life. If you do, make sure to use high temp caps as they live longer in amps due to the heat.

Check out what Jake lists above if you can or have a tech look at it. I had a NAD integrated that would lose power and distort when turned above 1/3 volume. Turned out the storage capacitors were bone dry. Simple fix, sounds like new!
I'm sure you can bring it back without spending too much!

Thanks guys , I'll do some more researching after I take it apart . I'll be ordering some new caps for my rta15 along with some other parts so I want to order everything all at once .Yamaha V1800 receiver along with a NAD 2600a and 2700a .

The NAD is a fine amp. I have restored a few of them over the years. You must be very carful working on this amp as with any high current device. This amp uses two different voltage caps in the P/S, 80v/120v so you need to pay attention to the replacement caps. They must be of the same size or you'll have problems fitting them in. As far as "high temp caps" you can do as you wish or follow the crowd. I only use HT caps if they are very close to a high heat source. If your serious about restoring the amp use Elna for Audio, you can order most of them from Mouser. Yes they are more than the HT Panasonics or Nichicon's but your amp and ears will thank you later. Again, be very carful working on this amp as any electronics. Hopefully you have some technical abilities and at the very least a scope, Multi meter and a load resistor set. And also just replace the relays, don't clean them it's a waist of time.

Everything I replace will be with higher quality components . This amp was given to me so I don't ever plan on getting rid of it . As far as my knowledge with amps goes this will be my first time working on one other than a subwoofer amp that I fixed a while back . Thanks for the input embrown I'll let you guys know how it goes next week I'm doing the job this weekend .Yamaha V1800 receiver along with a NAD 2600a and 2700a .

Remember you can always buy higher voltage or temp rated components, but good point about size. I kick myself when components don't fit and I have to modify what I have or buy different parts...

Higher voltage components , will that affect the specs of my amp any ? I was planning on just replacing all parts with quality oe components .Yamaha V1800 receiver along with a NAD 2600a and 2700a .

For caps no, but it may effect the size depending on the manufacturer.

I was going to make another thread for this but my buddy/ roommate has a jbl e250p and he fried two resistors . The specs are 1.2k ohm 3w and 1.2k 5w both metal oxide . What are his options on replacing them ? Anything better than the originals ?Yamaha V1800 receiver along with a NAD 2600a and 2700a .

Replace them with same resistance, same material, but I would step up to 10w for both. Does he know why they fried?
-
I took a look at it and it looks like the capacitors were going bad and finally fried the resistors . Sucks because he was about to replace the caps due to some other issue he was having . He left the sub on came back home and it was cookedYamaha V1800 receiver along with a NAD 2600a and 2700a .
