Ok I know this is a loaded question but I am looking at replacing my failing VSX-1121k AVR. Sad.. Very very sad....
I am looking for something comparable. I know newegg often has sales among others. Audio quality is the priority. Don't want to
downgrade but would like to stay under 500 bucks.
I have 2 Monitor 70's/CS2 Center/ 505 Sub and Monitor 40 Surrounds. I use mainly for movies/TV.
Thank you!

A little over but definitely an upgrade if sound quality is your priority. I have the model 2 years older and loved what it did for my MOnitor 60s/CS1/Monitor 30 setup

I never thought to look at Marantz. Any other ideas?

The Marantz will give you a nice balance between HT presentation and music!
Any Pioneer with ICE amps would do you to, but I don't think you'll find any for under $500?
Onkyos TX-SR 7XX series or higher, sound decent with Monitor series, you can find refurbs on the site Drummer lists above.
Higher level Denons with Pre-outs also sound pretty good with Polks.
Maybe this, a bit high at $599.

Any AVR you buy should have pre-outs because those M-70s love the power upgrade of an external power amp. Something you will be able to budget for in the future?Currently orbiting Bowie's Blackstar.!

Just newer models. The older models like mine were TX-SR and the new ones are now TX-NR, I believe. I don't know if these signify something? Perhaps SR was "surround receiver" and NR "network receiver"? At least that's my guess because a lot of the new AVRs for Onkyo do internet now!

The 727 doesn't have pre-outs? That's bad news as that series was a great price point for Onkyo!
