New bipole/dipole speakers; placement advice needed

Picked up a set of FXI 30s on CL, trying to fill more of my room with surround sound. 100% movies.

My main seating area is the couch in front of screen, but the bar top tables just behind the couch is the 2nd most popular area. With my current setup I'm only 5.1 with monopoles directed at couch, so I have this large area behind the couch that is in need of help. I bought these bipole/dipoles to help fill the rear area of the theater.

I see thx says bi/dipoles in the surrounds and monos in the rear surrounds. Like this

But would it be better to use them in the back to fill the room better? Where should I put these things? Here is my setup, I have a large opening too on one side so ispeaker placement isn't optimal I'm sure.

Heck yeah, you can use those di/bipole speakers anywhere you want.

I put them up like the THX picture. FXi 30 Bi/dipoles as surrounds, 2 ft above ears. Moved directs to the rears, did audyssesy xt32. Liked it better at 7.1 vs the old 5.1. Couldn't pinpoint what was different, seemed a little less direct or less harsh from the surrounds, I'm assuming from them not being pointed directly at me.

I felt like I noticed the front soundstage more with this setup. Thinking of picking up some RTi 8s, seems like they seem to be a preferred front for home theater use. Also would want to find a CSi5 to match. I think it would sounds like it would be a decent upgrade as well.

I agree with you there. I had direct radiating speakers in surround, once I put the FXiA6's in, a whole new world of sound opened up.

Nice selections on your upgrades, you will enjoy the improvements!
