Home Theater geek? Audio Geek? Etc.

Always wondered where our passions fit in as most people I come across have no clue or interest in the degree of detail we put into our setups.

I've had some people were dumbfounded with my modest basement theater while others were overwhelmed and didn't want any of it (usually the women).

I guess it's a case of different stroke for different folks

Are we an exclusive group? Most families seem to be going with the easiest setup-(htib, sound bar,)

Clubs like these show I'm not alone trying to achieve audio nirvana !

Eh, I guess its more of a cost benefit analysis for me and my wife. Does she hate when I buy lots of expensive HT gear... well yeah... just like I hate when she keeps buying more shoes to add to the Millions of pairs she has.....

But I keep telling her to think of the money we end up saving by being able to rent/buy movies to view at home instead of seeing them in the theater. Every time we watch a movie we save about 40+ bucks over the cost of a ticket at the theater and soda/candy.

Plus as a taller fella my legs dont really work to well in the super tight seats, and you know you surely cant pause and rewind in the theater so you can take a leak.

So for us my HT setup saves us money, makes it easier and more enjoyable to watch movies, and honestly provides almost as good if not better sound and picture than their setup.

Most of us have taken our time slowly building our systems as we find good prices on our gear. I probably have paid about 30% of the MSRP of the gear I have by finding the deals and being patient. So while my system is PHENOMENAL, it's been paid for at a fraction of the price which again helps the wife be happier.

As for my wife's shoes.... well I just don't talk about them if she doesn't talk about my HT spending habits.... don't poke the sleeping bear they say

P.S. and honestly there will be no greater feeling than when my daughter comes running up to me or my wife with her favorite animated Pixar movie saying "Can we watch this on the Big TV... pleeeeeeeaaasssseeeeee".......

    We are all insane!!! lol

I like HTIB and sound bars as it puts your average guy on a path that he might never have walked. Its a long road though and never ending, by the time you get there your ears ears are too old.

Yeah it's cool when my son asks for movie night but one time I got perplexed when someone once said I was the "doo-dad" or gadget guy. When in reality they're as connected to gadgets with the latest iphone and ipad

I'll never forget a few years back, I was at a guys house doing my job and in one of his garages, he had some amps and stuff and four 901's hanging from the ceiling in the corners, now IMO bose is NOT polk, but their not audivox either, so I wondered what might be inside the house and wow, he had all kinds of vintage amps, martin logans and incredible amount of stuff. Had a good talk with the guy, about a month later I came across my SDA's and the rest is history, well that continues to still be written..
