I just got my hands on a mint pair of SRS 1.2TLs and used them to replace my RT800s. From what I can tell, they seem to blend in well with my CS350 center channel. Any sugguestions on what to play to see if there is a problem with panning, etc.?

Thanks!

Nice snag, tb... welcome. 1.2tl's are a holy grail of sorts 'round here. Posts some pics when you can. Also post what are you driving them with, etc...

Assuming the speakers calibrated to begin with using one of the many Test discs out there (Avia or other) and an SPL meter, the best answer I can offer is DVD material with a great deal of fast L to R or R to L panning action with a goodly amount of higher frequency material ala "Star Wars".

If the tone changes noticaably as you sweep through the center channel, you might want to consider another center.

I have the original big boys, the SRS's and found the CS400 to be a somewhat better match than the 350, but then I have the SL2000 tweeters and you should be running the SL3000's.

I'll attach a pic of my HT here.

I am in the market for a new receiver. Currently I have a Pioneer VSX D906S. It's donig the job for now, but I really want DTS and other DD modes.

I found the sound section of the Video Esentials to quite lacking. Maybe I should pickup the Avia. Someone also recommended Toy Story 2 as there is quite a bit of panning. I think I'll give that a try tomorrow.

    Thanks!

    Robert,

    Welcome to the forum.

That's a pretty picture :D I think you'll find the more high current power (200wpc min.) you feed those monsters, the better things are going sound. In other words, if you like them now you're going to flip with better power. You may even find you won't need that sub, at least for music.

BTW, what are the SDA's sitting on?

The sub is actually turned off most of the time. Right now I'm feeding them 100w, but I have a couple of NAD amps that came with them that I might use for 2 ch. They will then be fed with 380w ch. I'm actually looking at the sunfire cinema seven signature that has an RMS of 400w ch into 7 channels at 8 ohms! It's a bit pricey, but would do wonders!

I think I'll blow the circuit breaker with this one! Might have to look into that first. Can't really do much with that in an apt.

Oops, forgot. They are sitting on carpet with the spikes in the wood floor below it. It's pretty thin carpet and my guess is the floor below the carpet is plywood. Didn't think the neighbors would like it if I use the brace! :)

Those NAD's should work pretty well. Tour uses a Sunfire on his SRS's, I'm sure he'll chime back in about that. I'm running a Musical Fidelity Tri-Vista @ 475wpc/6 ohms on the 2.3TL's.

It looks to me like there are black wood(?) sticks or something other than spikes at the bottom of the speakers......just curious.

Those are the extensions that came with the speakers to make them more stable. They won't fall unless you really try. They extend out about 2 1/2" in the front and about 3" out the back. They have round feet that you unscrew and put the spikes in their place.

I see what F1 is saying. Looks like the 1.2's are sitting on black metal rails...

Ahhhh... Sunfire. As the folks attending the TX Polk Fest II were attesting before the thread was lost, nice amps. I have the original 5 x 400 wpc amp. Well actually two of them. Play very nicely with my SRS's.

I never heard of Polk offering those extensions. Must be a aftermarket add on.

better watch out, I am in collection mode again.

The last pair of SDA 1.2's on Ebay, had been mine, that guy made some profit, somebody used BIN at 2100.00, I sold them to him at 1400-1500.00 a year+ ago, kind of funny seeing some of your old gear on Ebay.

    tugboat,

Don't listen to these yahoos. Those 1.2's suck. Go back to your RT800's. Send the 1.2's to me. :D

Hmm... If they did put them on himself, he did a great job. They look factory! I'll look over the original manual that came with them to see if they mention anything.

TroyD, Yeah, they do suck. I think I'll just leave them there since they really look impressive and put small bookshelf speakers on top! :D

I do think the Sunfire is the way to go. Once tax refund comes, it'll be time to get one!

Thanks for everyones input. I think I'll keep experimenting with panning sources and see if it really is necessary to upgrade the center. I sure hope not. I'd rather put the money into the new amp and receiver!

    tb,
Do consider the older 5 ch Sunfires. Very good used value there. Should be able to get two series I Sig Cin's for the price of a new 7 ch. Added ch's are useful for bi-amping, adding 2nd zone, etc.

Also consider adding a 2nd center ch.

Okay, I don't know what to say about the rails. I just talked to the original owner and he says they came with the speakers. I looked at the manual and in the pic you can see the feet in the corners. I looked at the bottom of one of mine and there are no holes in the corners. Just the four threaded inserts about 4" from each corner that match up with the holes in the rails. Seems factory to me. Maybe a slight change for one model year?

Thanks for all your advice. I will look into used 5ch amps and see about doing justice to these speakers!
