I am planning on upgrading an old pioneer Elite receiver that had it's Hdmi board go. I'm looking at either the sc-71 or the sc-72. Just wondering what thoughts are regarding the sc-72 worth the extra $300. Local store has both open box for 700 and 1000. I did notice the sc-71 weighs in at 25.8 lbs while the 72 weighs about 32 lbs. Interestingly last years sc-61 is also around 32 lbs. not sure if that is not good for the sc-71. Anyone know why the loss in weight?

Amazon has the SC 1523-k for $1,000. Not elite so warranty is good, pretty close to the SC 75. Good deal on the 1323 also.

Thanks for the recs. I may jump for one of those. Other than warranty is there any difference between these and elites? Why the two lines? Also what about these vs yamaha 1030?

Its a Pioneer thing...they have been doing this for ages. I guess a marketing thing with the original intent of selling the Elite at exclusive dealers. Nevertheless, this unit is practically the same as the SC-65 with the logos and backing being different...the Elite gold vs. the white non-elite. The service manual is the same:

There was a mad buzz last March about these as Costco blew them out on clearance for $599. There is one on Amazon for about $900 shipped. There is always open box and clearance at Best Buy...

Let us know how you make out. I am currently shopping AVRs for a family member and would be interested in what you choose. Cheers.

I ended up going with the sc-71. So far I am really enjoying the sound. I would describe the sound as pretty we'll balanced. Not overly warm nor bright with nice detail. Mostly listening to two channel right now but brief experience with movie seems good with surround imaging. Good clear dialogue. Only question is with hearing slight hum from power supply. Not sure if that is normal though. Only from close up.
