I had a pair of dm 610i bookies. Same tweet and an 8 in woof. Nice sound. Tight bass. Really good for ht. I would imagine that the kevlar mid would sound even better

Personally I'm not a fan of that kevlar driver. It colors the sound too much in my opinion. Thought it sounded excessively "dry" on a pair of DM 602s. Man they could get loud and stay composed though. Only demoed some rock stuff on them. Didn't get a chance to try anything else.

Those drivers were designed for specificaly reducing coloration. Not sure what you are hearing as coloration.

I agree as I find B&W speakers clean, detailed, and forward; a very different speaker than Polks.

Maybe I'm hearing a lack of coloration as coloration. They were incredibly dry-sounding to me. I've worked with marching drumlines for the past 10 years and we use a kevlar-woven head for the snare drums to keep the tone very dry even when the heads are under extreme tension. To me, the drivers in the B&Ws sounded like kevlar, not like music. In theory the kevlar driver makes sense, but in practice it just wasn't for me. Granted, this was only one pair of B&Ws and wasn't intended as a blanket statement for all models.

Maybe I heard a bad set then because I thought the tweeter was anything but forward. It sounded very laid back to me. The tweeter was my favorite part of the speaker by far though. Very clean and detailed for sure. I liked the sound of it very much. The speaker was very well balanced from top to bottom, the overall sound just wasn't for me.

This is making me want to re-listen to those 602s though. Maybe I didn't give them a fair chance.

Source material makes a huge difference. I cant listen to some of my poorly recorded cds anymore on my cdms. That said, well recorded stuff really shines through.

It probably had more to do with the fact that the only other speakers in the room for comparison were Monitor 60s. The 602s should some more laid back and "dry" than those. I know what I'm going to do this weekend now...

See if I can put together a Totem/Dynaudio/B&W comparison test.
