best placement for lsim 705s
I currently have them about 27" (measured from woofer center) from the front wall and i think 13" from the side wall. I have a large 82" tv and have tbe speakers guessing about 10" from ea side of the tv. So i have room to move them in closer to the tv.and could come out more from the front wall but the room opens up on the right side and people may bump the front right speaker if it sticks out too far.
So anyone that may of experimented with the 705s placement have some tips on what works beat for them?
Out now but when i get.home i cpuld probably get some pics together for a better idea of what im working with.

The 13" from the side wall is what measured from the woofer center to side wall or cabinet side to side wall by chance?
I would try them at least 2' from the side walls if there is room and 2.5' from the front wall even if you don't leave them there just to see how they react with room and image. Then using that as a starting point move them slowly around and see where they end up.
Just a other thought do you have any room treatments? Try a bass trap behind each 705 and can really make a difference for sure.Absolute corruption empowers absolutely.

Sounds like you have a good start, but experimentation is your best bet. Basic placement facts remain, the closer a speaker is to a wall the more base reinforcement. The depth of your soundstage is relevant to the distance to the wall behind the speaker. Room size, shape, and furnishings, along with personal taste are all variables that make for my first sentence. Don't forget to play with your toe in as well. Long ago Polk used to put starting point suggestions in the manuals that came with your speakers. Not sure if they still do, or if you did not buy new I would bet they are available somewhere on this web site.

What read the manual? Who does that now aday? Haha j/k. Nope i did not bother.to.
Ok sounds like its time to put the rubber feet back on and moventhem around some and see what happens.
Will report back later on with hopefully pics and what i ended up with.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

Correction the speakers are 20.5" from the side wall..measured from center of woofer.. still 27" from front wall.. also forgot to mention that the listening spot is a large couch on the rear wall.
Also now after measuring, the speakers are 99" fromt centet to center woofer.. its 13" from woofer center to tv on each side. I can movr them in on the tv 9" before the speaker is touching. U dont wantnthrm that close to the tv right as it would hurt seperation?
Toe in now is pointed at each ear or i tried to.. before i would have them pointed right at me on a triangle shape.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

The biggest problem with speaker set ups is have objects in between speakers which will kill imaging worst case scenario is have speakers fronts pulled at least 6" forward of racks or other objects, best case scenario which most people can do is have absolutely nothing between the speakers2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

Yup becoming aware of speaker placement since moving.. right now i have them about 34" from the front wall.. thats from the woofer center. With that i happen to have about 11" from the tv stand from the front of the woofer. Looks good and sounds good there but no idea if the wife will be fine with it. We have 2 young kids aged 5 and 8.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

I think the couch against the back wall would pose the biggest problem to that setup. Never been a room where the ideal listening spot was against a wall. Any chance of sliding the couch forward for serious listening/viewing?Display: LG 47" LCD | AVR: Marantz SR5005 | BD: Panasonic BDT-210 | CD/SACD: Oppo 980 |

No chance.. how much forward would i have to go to be safe? I can always just sit on the ottomen if needed hehe.. yeah i was aware of that issue before i moved it there..read one could just move the speakers more forward to help with the boomy bass.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

Heres my living room. Took as many angle shots as I could showing everything.
The back wall really bugged me trying to figure out how and where to place the surrounds. I've read a few different guides that said to have the speakers facing each other from side to side and about 2 feet or more above ear level. I ended up hanging them with the tweeters 2 feet above ear level. Another guide said to have them angled down at the listening area.. I waited to ask first. Straight across makes me think i'll get reflections from the other wall but they say you want the sound to be over the head so why point them downward? Obviously I was stuck with putting the one right surround close to the back wall since that was the only spot I could hang it with the window cutout there. The other side I had to go further away as that was the closest spot to the back wall I could find a stud to mount it to. Personally I wouldn't mind making some kind of frame on the right side that would allow me to mount the speaker another foot from the back wall but the wife says no way haha. Anyways.. no doubt i'll need some wall treatments on the back wall.
Would'nt mind trying to move the couch up a foot or so if it will make any difference. I would then try to put some kind of book shelf on the back wall for my movies/music. Wife again rolls eyes.

Oh and tell me where i'd put a sub? No where to fit it on the front wall.. Would'nt be smart to have it right next to the front speakers right? Would'nt the speakers reflect off it? Obviously the room is in the early stages and i'm not using a sub and don't feel i'm missing too much for music.. a little for movies though but i'm content right now.
Once i'm set on the rear channel i'll get the wires in the walls and I plan to run 3-4 dedicated power lines up for the amps and everything else.. and I cant wait for that to finally get some internet upstairs at the same time.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

I would try to figure out a way to get that center channel back in the same elevation. It's way to high
-
Its angled down at ear level. Had it that way since I got the speakers back in the summer. No problems. Wont raise the tv and put the speaker under.. if anything i'd like to build my own tv stand so I could lower the tv about 5 inches.
Before that i'd had 2 different 61" DLPs and also had my polk audio center speaker up on top with no issues. Been doing it for about 10 years that way now hehe.
No idea how one could change that using a large screen?Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

If you play something really bass heavy just sit in your usual listening spot and slowly walk forward until the boom goes away and the bass is clear. You could just use that chair in the sweet spot when you're the only one watching. That's what I do in my living room.Display: LG 47" LCD | AVR: Marantz SR5005 | BD: Panasonic BDT-210 | CD/SACD: Oppo 980 |

Tough room with all those openings. Now for the number two word after experimentation. The dreded compomise, which most of us with out the ability to have a dedicated room must face. You have the right idea, don't make any of your wiring permanent until you have the chance to move things around and find what sounds best for you, and for what the wife will approve.

This is an answer that Polk Support gave to someone asking almost the same question:
HaroldZ · 4 days ago:
I am interested in the lsim705 but can only place them about an inch from the wall. Will this work OK, or is there a minimum distance they need to be away from the wall?
Answer this Question
Polk_Support_Ken · 11 hours ago:
That will be fine, they are a downward firing tower so they can be as close to the wall as you want.

What is a bass trap?

As another note I would have installed ceiling speakers for your rear surrounds. They are angled and tweeters are adjustable.2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

Though of ceiling speakers but funds are tight currently with paying on 2 morgages. I would have a hard time selling the 703s as theres screw holes in the bottom of them cause i had to secure them to the wall brackets.
I've had a rti38 fall out one of these brackets using another methiod of bracing them without screws and no way am i risking that again.
Plus these 703s will be far superior to any im wall speaker.
Just last night i tried pulling the couch away about a foot and a half and i liked it.. wife made me push it back cause of the birthday party starting.in a.few minutes hehe.. said push it back and aftet the party u can move it out. So im gona do that and then move the rears on the back wall near the corner and have them angled towards the middle.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

Not really much to comment on....the 705's are ported downwards allowing a closer to the wall application. An inch away though, I wouldn't. Anyway, much depends on the room and whats going to be inbetween the speakers.HT SYSTEM-

Yeah... from everything I have read regarding the 707/705 - it seems that these need to be away a few feet from the walls...
? -
A few feet...eh depends, in any event their design allows for closer to the wall placement. I wouldn't fret too much over it.HT SYSTEM-
