    Rich,
Have you tried hooking up the 3000 top/bottom as one speaker (Option 1 in the manual) and then playing with the crossover settings on back after room calibration. It looks from your signature that you have additional subs in the system, that would help the 3000's become more to your liking (I don't currently have additional subs in my system just the 3000's)

Huge upgrade overall or in bass? If the bass is turned off how different do the CS1000P and CS400i sound in vocal clarity, detail, and smoothness?
WLDock - The biggest thing for me is that with the CS 1000 able to go much lower than the 400 it puts more sound right in the center of the screen (assuming you have the center channel in a proper place lol) and anchors the sound there. Some male voices really sound amazing with the 1000!

Too me the only thing the same between the two is the tweeter, and even that sounds a little different (probably because of the xo network). rich

Yes, The 3000's just sound cleaner/clearer x/o higher in my room, I'm sure there's some room gain-corner loading issues there, but I can't do anything about that because of my screen. When I pull them out from the corners and place them well inside the "happy zone" I still have the issue. When I listen to music I only use the 3000's tops and bottoms, the bass in the bottoms is perfect. rich

......just need something in the midrange.....just can't put my finger on it.....so close......I don't wan't to spend a lot more money to get a small percentage better.
Been there many times. Believe me, I am not posting to knock the RT5000 set. I loved much about that system but what I loved was not enough for me to keep them. Modded SDA's IMO are not a small percentage better, they take you to a whole new level. It took me several years of reading SDA modding posts on the forum to finally convince me to try a pair of 1C's. Once I had those in the house and could compare them directly to the RT3000's, I never wanted to listen to music on the RT's again. Find someone in your area that has a set of SDA's and go get your ears on them so that you can hear for yourself and make up your mind which satisfies your desire for mid-range balanced with deep satisfying bass better. :)
