I just received a set of Monitor 5's. They were shipped to me; appeared to be packed well with no apparent damage.

I have heard about the magnets coming loose especially during shipment. Before I hook these up I would like to make sure that they are OK.

Do I need to pull the speakers out and examine? What exactly am I looking for.

If they are still attached do you guys recommend re-gluing/epoxy?

Thanks
RickM

    Welcome to Club Polk!

Take the grills off. Get everything in the room a quiet as possible.

Take your hand and push on the passive radiator at the bottom while listening closely to the MW driver. It should be almost perfectly quiet. If you hear scratching or sounds of parts rubbing together there is a problem. I doubt you will see much by just taking the driver out and looking at it.

After you hook them up you might detect a problem with them sounding bad as well.

Yes you should glue the magnets but you can use the speakers until you have time to do it. There are a lot of posts here that will tell you how to do it. I used JBWeld but it's messy. I would recommend you check out wesstmassguy's method of using Loctite Power Grab.

With the grill cover off, you can gently pushin the 6.5" driver to see if it is moving up and down freely with no noise.

I had had luck with two sets of Monitor 4 shipped and 4 used drivers shipped so your probably okay.
The scratching sound that you would hear if there is a problem is where the magnet has moved
off center and the voice coil is rubbing against it.

Well I think I am screwed. Went and hooked up the speakers and both have no bass. I tried pushing in on the 6.5 driver (middle speaker) and neither of them will budge.

What are my options at this point. Are new drivers available?

    Thanks

Did you try to push in on the passive radiator? This will cause the 6.5 driver to extend out. If it doesnt your drivers are probably toast. You will need to pull them and get the model number. (MW6500, MW6502, etc)

Yes, I have pushed in on the passive radiator. It moves easily on both speakers. But neither speaker's woofer will budge, they are frozen. If I push any harder on the woofer (middle speaker MW 6502) I will put a hole through it!

What can I do at this point??

    Thanks
