Is this a real Polk?

Hey guys,

I bought this off ebay last week for $5 plus shipping. Is it a real Polk? It sounds okay, but the "Made in China" on it threw me, as did the 4 ohm imp. on such a little speaker. I'm thinking this may be one of a stereo pair intended for some little mini system.
The info on the back says "RT105" mini system. 5 1/4 woof. It is in great shape (except no grill) and is fairly nicely finished.
The dimensions seem a little strange for a polk bookshelf...10 1/2" high by 6 1/2 wide by 9 1/2" deep (!).

Anybody ever seen one?

Never seen / heard of this one, cool looking little speaker though.

It might have been designed to be paired with a passive sub, and once ran through the sub, you would probably be back at 8ohm.

That midbass screams Polk, I'm sure its a 'real' one, just maybe something not marketed over here.

    Cool find nontheless.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Could it be from the Onyko mini-set that was sold with Polk speakers?

Actually that is not stuffing newspaper...just dust. You can see straight into the port to the back of the tweeter. I might just have crack this **** open and see what else is in there.
I know one thing that is not there..a big magnet. This speak is surpisingly light.

I didn't know that Polk had made speakers for an Onkyo mini-system. That might be what we have here. The funny thing is that this looks a lot like the speaker that comes with the current Onkyo mini-system (I think it is the MC35) that CC sells, although this speaker is a little bigger.

Yes, I was thinking that too. Crutchfield had those systems for a short while. Listed it as an executive stereo type deal. Very under-rated. I heard one at a local WIZ before they all closed down. Those speakers look ALOT like the ones that came with the system. They had the RTXXi drivers in them vs. the RTi drivers, IIRC. I could have that backwards though. I know they were small cabinets with 5.25 inch drivers in them too.

Thanks for posting the pic. The sticker looks profesional. It's probably real Polk speakers from the Onkyo set that everybody is talking about.

I googled them and found them paired with the Onkyo system here: http://www.supremevideo.com/audio/onkyo/ps509.htm

And they are mentioned in HTmag here: http://www.hometheatermag.com/loudspeakers/96/

Why does the sticker say that it's magnetically shielded, then give a warning not to place it too close to the TV?
    Ludicrous gibs!

Thanks for all of the research guys. So I guess it is the real mccoy. If only I had the pair. This one sounds good but considering it was made for 20 w/channel mini system I'm afraid to hook it up to anything with power. I have actually seen the Oink mini-receiver that these were sold with on Ubid recently...going for $35 to $75. Might make for a groovy little garage rig if I can find the second speak.
