PSW 505 vs SVS

In the quest for bigger and better I am looking for an upgrade to my Klipsch KSW 12. I have demo'd the PSW 505 and know what to expect from it. The question I have is how it may stack up to the 25 31 PC +. It seems that the PSW 505 retails for around $600 new and the SVS retails for $775. I would have no qualms spending the extra dough for the SVS sub, but only if there is enough difference in volume and sound quality when compared to the 505 to make it worth $175 extra clams. Hopefully this will be my last sub purchase and I hope to be content with the way it fits the rest of my current setup. It would be even better if there was enough sub to keep me from outgrowing it when I eventually upgrade my front channel speakers. I listen to my music at moderate volumes when my wife is in the room, but loud and clear is the way I love it. Movies are some of the rare times I can turn the volume up to the volume levels I prefer and not catch hell, so H/T performance is most important to me. Well, what do you guys think?? How do the two compare, and should I buck up and spend the extra cash for the SVS? Lemm know what you think is best...

I can't answer your question but I'm in the EXACT same boat as you including the WAF. I faxed a sketch of my room with measurements and layout to SVS and got a reply from Tom V within a couple of hours with recommendations. That would be a good place to start. I'm sure the Doc or others will chime in with actual comparisons between the 2

Try both and see. SVS offers a 45 day trial period. I'm betting the return shipping fee which one you will keep. ;)

Polk has been working hard to improve its subs, and the 505 is one of their more impressive efforts. Still, they are constrained by size/looks considerations, whereas the SVS is form follows function.

All SVS does is subwoofers. They are easily the best OEM value going. They beat brick and mortar offerings costing several times more.

    This review says it all.

Crutchfield has the 505 for $499, and I think they even throw in a psw202 for free.

I think one of the best quotes of that article is this...

The bass was not just filling the room, but controlling the room with iron-fisted authority.

    Can't argue with that.

Well, sorry to everyone who has to bear reading this thread. I am sure this is entirely over talked about, maybe I should have searched harder and for that I am sorry... But, I learned of a free trial period from SVS and I definitely didnt know of that. Might have just made up my mind right there. So, once agian, sorry if this is a pain in the ****. Let me know if the thread needs to be deleted. Thanks guys

    Stay tuned, Sean.

"We will have several *small* subwoofers to introduce in 2004. These will range in size from (approximately) 10” cubes to 14” cubes. We’ll use power amps from 250 watts to 1000 watts and drivers from 8-12” in diameter. We hope to start pricing <$400 and the most powerful unit will be>$1000. We are still a month or two away from knowing how well these will compare to our current models though."

If anyone can pull off a micro-sub without significant THD, SVS can. It hasn't been done yet, that's for sure. It's very hard to "bend" Hoffman's Iron Law. To get good response down low from a small enclosure requires EQ - no two ways around it.

I'm guessing a sealed design with a Linkwitz Transform. The 14" TOTL unit will have a super long throw (like 50 mm xMax) version of the vaunted TV-12.

Or if you can't wait you can look at the Logan. The one I seen at Audio Visions (Canton, Oh) in there demo room the single 10" was very impressive and clean. If size is a major coincern.
