Mains for a 2.1 setup
Hey all. I'm gonna have to turn HT setup into a 2.1 system :-(. I have a choice whether to stay with my tsi100s or use a pair of R40s that was offered from a friend of mine. They are in like new condition...which is good considering they're much older than my tsi100s. Which of these would be better? I'll still be using my bic f12. Thanks :-).
My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV

Hmmmm. R40s are a lower series than Monitors, but they also have two 5+" drivers. So you'd probably get more bass out of the towers than the TSIs but the TSIs might have better highs because they have the better tweeter. So I'd say there are trade offs here. And depending on where you set the Sub crossover it might not matter much?

Polk Lsi-7s, Def Tech 8" sub, HK 3490, HK HD 990 (CDP/DAC), AKG Q701s

I'd stick with the Tsi's I think, any way to compare them first?

I'm not worried too much about the bass. I run the audyssey setup, and where ever the crossover is I usually set it 10 to 20 hz above that. I'm thinking that the R40s might be a bit louder cuz of the extra drivers? My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV -

Not at the moment. I've read the reviews on the R40s, and they're pretty good...excellent mids n highs these reviews said.My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV -
I'd say you're going to have to hear both. Efficiency wise, though, there is only a 1 db advantage to the towers, which is not much.
Hard to say without a direct comparison.

I was thinking the same...My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV -
I was able to bring the R40s home to try them out. They sounded really good all by themselves...good bass, excellent mids and good highs. Sound characteristics are identical to the pioneers...but with a touch more brightness in the highs..in a good way:-). In my comparison with the tsi 100s, they obviously had more low end, but a touch less bright in the mids n highs...had a warmer sound. In all, the tsi100s blended better with my sub..so the tsi100s will be my mains. As far as loudness, the two are identical...the R 40 might sound a bit louder because of its low end, but with the sub in the mix, its low end isn't a factor.
Just to be curious, I'm going to see how these will compete with the pioneers in my 2ch music setup...My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV -
New experiment....I am going to see how the pioneers perform in this setup compared to the tsi100s...any thoughts??My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV

After experimenting with the pioneers in my HT setup, hate to say this, but found out that they actually sound better than my tsi100s...to my surprise! They had better, deeper lows and the highs, to my ears, sounded less fatiguing. I put them back in my 2ch setup because that's were I want them, but now I'm considering either getting another pair or purchasing the floor standing model? My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV

Well I took a chance and I purchased the pioneer floor standers. I figured I can always return them if they weren't any good. I hooked them up, ran audyssey ( it set the xoxer at 60..just like the tsi 100s), and popped in Man of Steel...which I'm watching rite now. Take the SQ of the bookshelf pioneers and add better lows and better volume. These integrate seemlessly with my sub..whereas with the Tsi's I could localize the sub. The Tsi100s have slightly higher highs, but can get fatiguing after a while. The mids, to me, are more accurate sounding on these pioneers... Must be the xover design. All in all, if your on a very tight budget, and want new, I'd give these a look;-)My Setup: Denon AVR X3600h, Polk Signature S50 Fronts w/ S30 Center and S15 Rears, LG UBK90 4K Player, TCL 6-Series 65”4k TV

Speakers are a very individual thing what one person feels is the best thing they ever had gotten there ears on the next may feel they sounded like junk. Everyone ears are different and there pocket books are too.
Some people love the sound of a simple paper cone and others make like the sound of reinforced kevlar more. What one may call bloated bass the next guy may love.
I know a guy who feels his Bose micro cube system would put out more bass then a pair of 18" subs though I still don't know why.
The point is if your happy then in the end that is all that counts and it's good to be happy with your system because otherwise you keep spending money and that is never a good thing.
Maybe you should redo the crossovers in those speakers and take them to the next level lots of fun and it will help them sound there best.
Now back to drinking for meAbsolute corruption empowers absolutely.
