mismatch RT and TC speakers?
I've gotten myself into a weird situation.
I bought 4 80fx/rt speakers for my fronts and surrounds without thinking (along with a 255c-RT). I cut the holes for them and installed them all. I wasn't blown away by the front L/R speakers and for good reason - those are both surround speakers that disperse the sound as they should. I should have bought front speakers and not 4 surrounds. (hey, I got a deal)
Now I have 9 3/8" holes in my ceiling and I need new fronts, but the only fronts that will fit into my 7" deep ceiling are the 620RT or TC80i. The TC80i will fit perfectly into the existing holes without any repairs (bonus), but the 620RTs will require me to build a 1/2" inner ring to support the smaller speaker. No biggie, but not optimal.
So, should I timbre-mismatch my speakers and use the more-robust TC80i for fronts (which means I can use the same holes and would not have to repair my ceiling), or convert the existing holes and get the less-robust but timbre-matched 620RTs?
Thanks
