hi friends,
I am from India and I recently joined AV forums. I need your help in setting up my stereo setup.
I have Polk Audio TSi100 speakers which is connected to Astonia SC300 Amplifier (its a local company. Here is the link if you guys need specification of amp Astonia audio ). Amp is connected to PC through 3.5mm to RCA wire. Whenever I listen "Bass I love you" song at high volume (or medium level), I noticed distortion, speakers just cant handle some part of the song. I don't know the exact word (sorry I am kind a noob in sound department). I don't experience such distortion in any other songs even at very high volume.
I need your help in deciding
1. Is it because of my low power amp?
2. or is it because my speaker can't handle such low frequency.
3. I am planning to buy Polk Audio DSW PRO 550 sub, whether this will resolve the issue. If the problem is with amp then I will buy Marantz SR 4023 amp and will add sub later.
4. As I don't have any sound card or DAC for my pc. I wanna buy DAC to improve the quality of the sound coming out of my pc. But for DAC I only have the budget of $200. If you guys can suggest me acceptable DAC in this budget would be great.
Looking forward your response.
Regards

Sounds, to me, that you have the volume knob turned up too high. Doesn't really matter how much power or lack of power any amp/avr has. It can only do so much. Once you get around 1/2 on the volume, sometimes a little more sometimes a little less, you've pretty much reached the limits of the amplifier section. You basically have ho reserve power or headroom left.
So when you have some sort of signal that needs some extra punch, the amp is doing its best to deliver, it just has nothing left to give. Distortion, if it's an intermittent thing is trying to tell you to turn the volume knob down and save your speakers. Want more bass, get the sub first, then AVR, and so on. -
Yea those are what they are, nice sounding small bookshelf speakers.
If you want lots of bass you could add a powered sub.POLK SDA 2.3 TLS BOUGHT NEW IN 1990, Gimpod/Sonic Caps/Mills RDO-198

You may also want to check on the quality of the music source. MP3's ripped at less than 128kbs can exhibit some significant compression artifacts when played over a nice stereo as opposed to typical PC speakers or headphones.Receiver: ONKYO TX-NR929 7.1 AVR 130wpc
