You should write a mini-autobiography on how you got into this hobby. All the women I know just have those all-in-one stereo systems where the tuner, amp and CD player are one unit for playing CDs, and they never refer to it as "gear". I don't know a single woman that is into the audio world, and I don't know why. I don't know why it seems to only be guys that like nice sounding music and home theaters.

I agree with your assessment Hermit, it is right on the money.

I'm different because I grew up surrounded by music. My dad was a professional musician. He played the violin, my mom was interested in used to take singing lessons. My older brother Tom was a very good pianist, my younger brother Mark has a full size electric organ in his house and was taught to play by organist Tom Murray when he was in St. Paul's Cathedral choir. I can play the guitar a bit.

Dad always encouraged us to take an interest in music, but if the composer hadn't been dead for a few hundred years he wasn't interested. I'll never forget listening to Deep Purples Machine Head and he told me to "Go put on some Bach!" LOL.

But I knew from an early age that I wanted a decent system once I grew up and had the money. And that is exactly what I did in 1981 I got an all matching Sony System. Added in a Radio Shack tape deck and was very happy. Then in 1990 I got my Polk RTA-8Ts, a 50wpc Rotel amp, Rotel pre, Rotel 855 cd player, and the Onkyo tape deck that is on the bottom shelf of my rack. I kept that system until sometime in the mid to late 90s when I ran out of inputs and got the Denon 3802 receiver, my Boston center channel & sub and my Pioneer DVD player. I kept that in place and was very happy until I joined this club in 2004 and then all hell broke loose.

I started looking at the LSIs but was told that my Denon couldn't handle them. In short order I got a Parasound 1500A, HELLO POLKS!!!! To this day, getting that amp was the most important and significant improvement I ever made. As you can see I still have my 8Ts. Then I bought my FXi 3s from someone on here, then I got an Outlaw M200 for my center channel. then someone on here put up their Sunfire 405wpc amp and I jumped on it. in 2006 I got the Sunfire Prepro, and at some point I got my Rotel 1072 cd player, in 2008 or 2009 I bought the DSW 400 and that is where my system is now.

I gave my brother Mark my Rotel gear which was at least 15-18 years old by then & the Parasound which does a great job powering his LSI 7's which I bought from Doro as a Christmas present for Mark.

So there is my mini-bio for getting into audio Hermit!

    Cathy,

Nicely done on the new rack!

Thank you for sharing your autobiography as an audiophile!

My wife, who does, in fact, appreciate a system that sounds good, is always commenting that "only" -- I correct her to "mostly" -- men get into this hobby. But at least she tolerates my enthusiasm -- except when I have the volume to high or the wrong sort of music on for the circumstances.

You are also a very kind a generous sister! :-)

Power source for all components: Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One with dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel.

That's a great backstory. You sound like a cool lady. I feel like I just watched an episode of "Inside The Actor's Studio", if it was about music instead of acting. I wish I had some sort of musical background. I can't play an instrument and I can't even sing my A, B, C's. When I was in elementary school during Christmas time, we had to take a field trip to a retirement home and sing Christmas carols. I was so bad I had to lip-sync. I did take a general music class in junior high school but all I got to play was a plastic instrument that somewhat resembled a flute. If you want to get kids interested in music, don't hand them a piece of PVC pipe with holes drilled in it. Give them something cool like a guitar. I'm even too embarrassed to sing in the shower. I'm scared a burglar will break in my house and hear me. It probably would make a good theft deterrent. No one would be able to stand my singing long enough to find something of value to take.
