While I haven't ordered anything from SVS yet myself, it seems from what I have read here and what SVS's site says, that it really depends on what model(s) you purchase.

SVS is flat swamped right now with back orders on certain models from the holiday crush and from amp/woofer vendors playing catch-up.

The website says there is a PCi backorder of 7-12 days. Actual shipping time for a 20-39PCi via UPS from OH to PA is about 3 days. Worst case, I would say you will be looking at a 15 business day wait (maybe 3 calendar weeks, probably less) between order and receipt.

With that said, it's best to e-mail Erik Kroner at SVS and ask what the order-to-receipt time span will be for your specific model.

The CU Ultra is a HUGH step up from the Polk PSW650 that was originally in my system.

My den is 15x22 w/ an 11 foot tray ceiling. On one (22 foot) wall I have two (2) openings. One to the dining room the other into the kitchen.

DownloadAttach.asp?iImageUnq=22484 Pic of den from kitchen. Can you see the SVS hiding in the corner?

I used the Sound and Vision setup disk to calibrate the system. The sub can attain the 85 db with little effort.

Watching DVDs is a whole new experience. There are so many “new” LFE that were not present with the 650. I was watching T3 last week at –22 while my wife was in the bedroom at the opposite side of the house. Nothing but complaints about how “loud” I was listening to the movie. When the SVS kicks in you can hear it throughout the entire house.

My only complaint is the fans on the Sampson amp is slightly loud.

    Thanks for looking,

    Mike

P.S. How do i get my photos to load?

    Thanks again,

    Mike

Hmm.......guess that about sums it up. Yet another very satisfied SVS owner.

To attach pics, you hit browse at the bottom and double click. You can only attach one.

To have more than one, you need a website and you insert the image with the IMG button at the top.

    P.S. Why not the PC-Ultra?

My bad. I have the CS Ultra. I did not want to wait for the PC Ultra to be released.

    I have no regrets.

woooooo hoooo!! I finally did it...i just today ordered my svs pci 20-39. :D:D  hehehe, i can hardly wait, hopefully my model isnt on backorder like Dr. Spec said it might be. I guess ill have to wait and see, ill let everyone know how it goes after i set up this beast and test it out on a couple of my favorite dvds. Its gonna be such a massive jump in quality because my subwoofer was the only thing i didnt upgrade when i switched from kenwood 5.1 package for like $499.00 to all polk speakers. Im gonna be blown away haha. My sub now costs 100 dollars more than my entire previous surround sound set. Hehe im sooo joyous,

MAP your HT is awesome! Nice job with hangen the speakers.

I get annoyed by the Sampson a little myself... just seems when you really have your listen on you become focused on it. Just like someone clicken a pen in a library:(

I just crank up the volume a bit so the snr becomes bigger and drown it out.

Henry, you could probably raise the set point for the fan to kick on.

I think the default is the fans starts on "low" when the amp is switched on.

Then it jumps from low to high at a certain temp.

The fan circuit is probably conservative, since this is a pro-sound amp and is designed to be run for hours at near max power.

For a home use application where time of use and average power output is much lower, I'd bet you could limit fan operation without a loss in reliability.

Check with Samson and see what they say. It's not like you're sending each of the "twins" 500 watts continuous for hours or anything drastic.

Ya know Doc I did not even think about that. You are so right and I'll try and touch base with Sampson.

    Thanks for the tip

You guys are beating me down. I think I am close to pulling the trigger. I currently have the Sunfire MKII. I can probably sell it for $600-$700. Do you think the SVS in the same price range will sound better?? I know this is dependant on a lot of variables, but side by side, how does SVS compare to the Sunfire? Thanks, Jeff

Dr Spec or anyone else that can help:

Just a few questions on setting up my svs when it gets here. Ive heard people talk about using Y adapters for a 3 db gain. Does this help or am i mistaken? If it does help how so? Another question is...will i have to set my crossover on the sub? Right now i have my onkyo set for a 80 hz crossover and all speakers set on small. Does that mean only frequencies below 80hz will be sent to the sub? Or does the sub output on my receiver send a full bandwidth signal? If i do have to set my crossover on my svs, what would be a good frequency to use? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

    THanks Mike

    Don't use a Y.

Keep your Oink BM settings right where they are.

Set the filter switch on the SVS to Disable and connect to a low level input (left or right, doesn't matter).

    Experiment with phase switch.

Is there any particular reason why one shouldn't use a 'Y' splitter?

    Not that I'm aware of.

I recommend a Y when the auto-on circuit of the subwoofer is "sleepy" at low volumes.

A Y just doubles the input voltage that the sub amp "sees", and it will turn on (and stay on) easier at low volumes.

Upping the pre-out sub level in the AVR will accomplish the same thing.

I like to keep the sub level in the negative range to minimize pre-out distortion. If this results in a sleepy auto on circuit, then a Y splitter will work well to fix that.

A Y splitter (obviously) can't "add" amplifier power that isn't already there. If the amp is rated at 500 watts, that's all you get.

The power the amp sends to the woofer is a combination of the plate amp volume setting, and the strength of the pre-out input signal.

    Dear SVS Customer;

As you know your order is currently backordered due to a shortage of the ISD drivers. We were hoping to receive the drivers late last month but unfortunately due to a problem in customs our driver manufacturer did not have the parts to build our drivers until this week. As we speak the drivers are being assembled and they should be shipping out a batch to us tomorrow. We’re paying to have them next day air freighted to us from the west coast so we’ll have them to work through the weekend on all the backordered subs. We hope to be caught up on all the subs ordered before February by the end of next week and all current backorders by the week after. We’re going to be working extra shifts and weekends from now until then to get caught up and might be able to get things out sooner (or god forbid a little later) but as of right now we think those estimates are safe.

We apologize greatly for all the delays and any missed shipping estimates, we were working on the best information we had at the time. If you have any questions please feel free to call or email us.

    Erik K
