I have read many places that they are not that impressive. With the configuration you would think they would be awesome - blow the doors down but for $1600.00 bones you can get much better. I believe there is a reason why amazon has them for $949.00 & FREE Shipping. Details You Save: $750.95 (44%). Read alot of reviews I think you will find your answer.

I have 2 in my ht setup. They have a nice combination of musical and HT cred.

The rap on them is that at $1400 each they are not worth it.I bought mine at an avg. of $850 each (new) and at that price point they are worth it. Newegg is authorized, and does run sales on them. They go well with lsi's.

Do they really compete with the ID subs at the same price point though? At $900 are they really on the level of, say, a HSU VTF-15 or Rhythmik F15?

Are there any other piano-black subs that Polk makes?

Or is this the only one?

I have to put the plug in for Velo's, in particular the SPL series. They just don't come up too often on the used market though. I'd also give these guys a serious look http://www.rythmikaudio.com/products.html. That's probably where I'm heading when it's time to retire my twin SPL's.

Hate the change the subject, lol.

But since I was the one that started the thread...:)

How do you like your Yamaha AVEBTAGE 3010 AVR - I was looking at the 3030....

Now I am looking at the pre/pro with amp - Yamaha CX-A5000 and MX-A5000...

    :)

How many channels do you want to run on HT. 5.1, 7.1...more any additional speakers after 5 channels can run off an AVR. I really think you can get more bang if you are looking for new with a Sunfire TGA-7201 amp. Nothing wrong with the Yamaha AVR.

    Just my 2c
    2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures
Desktop rig: LSi7, Polk 110sub, Dayens Ampino amp, W4S DAC/pre, Sonos, JRiver
Gear on standby: Melody 101 tube pre, Unison Research Simply Italy Integrated
Gone to new homes: (Matt Polk's)Threshold Stasis SA12e monoblocks, Pass XA30.5 amp, Usher MD2 speakers, Dynaudio C4 platinum speakers, Modwright LS100 (voltz), Simaudio 780D DAC

    I am looking to run a 5.1 / 5.2...

And using the pre/pro to have "phantom" front and rear heights - so I will have the illusion of a 9.1 / 9.2 system...

May I ask how big the room is and how far is your seating to the front speakers

The Polk subs are very "musical" and "fast". They dig deep enough for HT but if HT is your main concern then a number of others will blow the windows out of your listening space if that's the issue?

As for Phil, he "loves" that Yamaha Aventage and, IMO these receivers have PUT Yamaha back in the game because they are that much better than what Yamahas were before them. Definitely a good investment!

Yes indeed...I'm lovin the Yammie. That new prepro of their's is another killer piece. If I already didn't have the 3010 I'd be all over that unit.

I am in the same boat...

I am trying to decide between the 3030 - and the new pre-pro and matching amp...

    Musical is good!

I really don't need subs that make the house shake...

As long as I can hear the sub/lows in movies - I am fine... I don't need to feel them...

Wrong on so many levels IMO. When an explosion from a movie hits you so hard in the chest it makes it hard to breathe you have a good sub...

A good sub would also be musical AND hit low and hard for movies. My HSU fantastically musical... and I should know, I'm a musician haha.
