Removing an adhesive sticker from CSi5
I hope I am posting this in the correct forum. I recently purchased a used CSi5, which sounds better than the CSi3 that I had previously. The are a few stickers from the store that the original owner bought it from (it was an open box). Those stickers have been on for a few years now. What would be the best way to remove the stickers (when I tried to peel on of them of, the paper was splitting and leaving adhesive residue behind), that will not damage the black finish of the speaker?
Thanks
Thanks

You can try also a little rubbing alcohol. Try in a non conspicuous spot first to make sure it wont damage the finish. It shouldn't but just to be sure.HT: LSI15, LSIC, LSIFX, Emo XPA-3:biggrin: Onkyo TXNR809, Sony BDP-S500, PannyDMP-BDT320, MIT S1 SC. Mit 73842dlp

GooGone is expressly for removing adhesive residue and it's danged good at it. It is certainly capable of attacking certain finishes/materials, but I've had zero disasters with it to date (I'd definitely not recommend it for lacquer a priori). A little goes a long way. Moisten the spot, wait as long as your own patience permits, and rub off with a soft cloth. Repeat as necessary.
Test on an inconspicuous spot first to ensure it's safe! ;-) -
I like this thread because it's happened to me and it continues. For what ever reason the 2 local GoodWill stores sticker their stuff all over the place. Now I'm talking right in the middle of LED readouts,a prominent knob or 2,tops of speakers and and LP fronts. I go to the manager and tell the dude listen I understand you have tag your items but how about on the bottoms of receivers or on the backs of albums and more out of the way places on other things. The dude shrugged it's our policy. Now solvents ng for plastic so warm water soak and wait and scrub. The albums not so much you can do. Petty yes but when you get a great deal it's annoying.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

there are plastics and there are solvents ;-)
A little digging on teh webs will turn up compatibility charts for plastics and solvents - also to be remembered are the variables of time and temperature. Generally speaking, very polar organic solvents (e.g., methanol, ethanol, isopropanol) are OK for many plastics and finishes (again, not laquer!). Acetone will craze or haze many plastics. Nonpolar solvents like hexane, toluene are likely to attack many plastics. I remember with great chagrin dissolving a disposable plastic (polystyrene) pipet with a solvent called THF (tetrahydrofuran) in grad school :-P I put the pipet in the liquid and it just disappeared! D'oh.
Warm water and a little detergent/surfactant may work for some things. Extremely gentle abrasives (the most gentle include toothpaste and Mr. Clean "Magic Sponge", as well as emery cloth) can be used with care.
Where it gets tricky, e.g., is silkscreened labeling on aluminum panels or glass. Ancient tuner or receiver glass can be incredibly difficult to clean without inadvertently removing the dial labeling (don't ask me how I know this!) :-p -

Yep, agreed, best way IMO -
I hate that annoying residue left behind from those stickers they use across the top of a new cd, that gets left behind when you pull it off mostly a little at a time. I use goo gone for that a little dab on a cotton ball and wahla residue gone. I also suggest test in a inconspicuous area before using on a painted surface.Home Theater

Tony, if it tastes like crap, you're licking the wrong side.............
Racing bikes for so many years and having the amount of ever changing sponsor list meant changing stickers every year, I agree with the blow dryer method the most, this heats up and softens the adhesive and allows the non chemical solution to remove the excess much easier and more efficiently.
And if THAT doesn't work, then by all means..........lick the crap out of it.............Source: BRP Panasonic UB9000, CDP Emotiva ERC3 - Display: LG OLED EVO 83 C3 - Pre/Pro: Marantz 8802A - Amplification: Emotiva XPA-DR3, XPA-2 x 2, XPA-6, Speakers, Mains/2ch-Focal Kanta No2's, C-LSiM706, S-702F/X, RS-RTiA9's, WS-RTiA9's, FH-RTiA3's, Subs - Epik Empire x 2

I used a hairdryer to heat up the stickers and removed them...the slower I went the less adhesive left behind. I then used a wash cloth with soap and water. Looks much better. There is still a little bit of adhesive visible, but not too bad. I couldn't find my bottle of goo gone. Once it turns up I will remove the remainder...no licking required lollsim705,lsim706c,lsif/x(4)+mc80(atmos)

Here is a late update...used goo gone. Put some on, left it on for a couple of minutes, scrubbed it a bit and then washed off with a little bit of soap and water. I would say 75 percent off the remaining adhesive was removed. One more treatment should do it, but I too lazy right now to do that right now. The adhesive not really noticeable, probably just noticeable to me because I know the stickers were there. Most importantly, no licking required!lsim705,lsim706c,lsif/x(4)+mc80(atmos)
