    So since nobody has asked. Was the pump nozzle & hose still hanging out the filler tube on the car when you returned days later? Or did it simply pull out when you drove off?

    ha ha...yeah, I'm not THAT unconscious fortunately. Evidently the nozzle just popped out and I found out yesterday that it actually shut off when it popped out so no clean-up had to be done.

    They used TO BE service stations, not just called "service stations."

    I have to say, having lived through the "service station" era, the transition, and now living in the "gas station" era -- I prefer pumping my own.

    My daughter lives in NJ, where they pump the gas for you, and I don't like it. I'd rather be doing something than sitting there waiting.

    Having someone pump your gas wouldn't work here in Texas are gas stations are huge the one I am working on has 48 dispensers 96 fueling positions, and the canopy is over 800' long

    Is this facility in the Houston metro area?

    I can't imagine that the Galveston area needs a facility this large.

    The Home Depot in my little New Hampshire town is only 90,000 sq ft, more or less.

    Nothing like a convenience store that is an acre and a half!

    These stores are built on 14-17 acre lots, and no they are built in the middle of nowhere on the major interstates. We are completing the Texas City location in Galveston County, but these are built all over Texas and will soon be built out of state.

    I keep re-reading this thread, for 2 reasons.

    One....because I keep hearing Bugs Bunny in my head saying "What a Maroon".

    Second...because if I ever did that, I might have to check myself into the nearest retirement community and call it a day.

    That is amazing. Two comments:
    1. Only in Texas!
    2. What a story about a state in which the economy is thriving in the midst of stagnation (or worse) in most others.

    We lived in California for the better part of a decade. What a contrast in results and in approaches to governance between California and Texas over the past two decades.
