Do I need a new receiver?

I'm leaning towards to sc-72 now. Per-outs and 4k pass through.
I'll check out those cables too, but is 16awg ok? -

It's four strands of 16awg wire. You wire the two reds together and the two whites together and it becomes an effective 13awg. -
Why is that better than 12awg?
-
Don't get too hung up on wire gauge...
If you're running fairly small runs and not pushing a lot power/current you should not need more than the 13awg you'll get from the 4S8. But if it makes you feel better the 4S11 will up the conductor size to 14awg for an effective 11awg.
Either way they are great quality and great sounding wires for very little money. -

Is blue jeans cable good speaker wire?
BJC Twelve White (5000UE) (White jacket, 12 AWG)
I used the BJC Ten and was very happy with it. Great cable for the price.
Never used Canare, but have heard nothing but good things. A solid recommendation.
If you can get the 72, get it. No such thing as overkill:) If you get the 71, you'll always wonder if you should have spent the extra dough and gotten the 72. Plus, if you ever decide to add an amp, you'll be glad you got the 72.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
I'm going to check out the differences between the two models.
The sc63 doesn't do 4k. I'm not sure how far down the road I'll pick up a 4k receiver, but the standard isn't out yet. Not sure what to do about that. -
In regards to the speaker cable, is the Canara 4S8 shielded, or rated for in-wall use?
I don't see anything on the product page for that info. -
I was able to find this:

Any good? -
Okay so I have to skip the Pioneer Elite... No warranty, not even from Square Trade.
Looks like I'm back to finding a good receiver with at least a 1 yr warranty -

I literally just clicked 'place your order' on Amazon.com. The Pioneer 1523k is $999.99 right now. I also got a 3yr warranty from Square Trade.
It isn't an Elite version, but it should be a great receiver. -
those are priced right:)

you did good it is baby Elite still has the D3 ice tech....don't lose sleep over it. -
I will not! I'm excited for it to arrive. I got it based on another user's opinion of the brand and model. Since I can't buy an Elite online, with a warranty, I figured the top of the line, non-elite, would be the way to go.
After looking more at the Marantz, I can't imagine dealing with the small port hole. I like to see the information displayed, ie: channels, decoder, etc...
I'm still looking for good speaker cable. Do I need to step it up to silver cable? -
cowboydude99 wrote: »I'm still looking for good speaker cable. Do I need to step it up to silver cable?
IMHO no silver would make an already bright speaker brighter... -
Gotcha! So copper it is.
Do different copper cables really change the sound? Seems like they're all basically copper... -
Thanks pitdogg2. I was thinking about this particular cable.
-
in wall inhibits you a little, but Belden is good you could step up to audioquest in wall. I'd look around for the best bang for the buck on it. here's what I found.

sorry link won't show right...well I guess once I got rid of the goooglygook it's right now... -
What do I need to look for in speaker cables?
Strand count? Solid copper?
For every article stating there is no difference in sound, there is one saying it does...
Any one actually have any experience with this? -
Many here will say it does make a difference however I would caution against spending too much on speaker cable as you are working with Polk's entry level speakers. With the money you would save on the cable you could upgrade to the CS2 center channel - a difference you WOULD notice.
Edit: I'm not knocking these speakers. I've owned all of them myself minus the 505 and they were great for the money spent without a doubt.Display: LG 47" LCD | AVR: Marantz SR5005 | BD: Panasonic BDT-210 | CD/SACD: Oppo 980 |

Absolutely, once you get past the basic cables.Political Correctness'.........defined

Point taken
So I should spend a little more and get the 4 conductor, shielded 14awg cable?
What changes about the sound by changing to a better cable? -
Congrats on your choice of receiver-sure your looking forward to getting it :smile :..

?
EDIT:
How do you use this type of cable? Do you twist the red and green cables together? And then do you do the same for the black and blue?
Effectively creating only two connections? -
Yes... won't arrive until Monday though... ugh
I might take a day off just to mess with it, and change out the cables. -

Excellent. It will be in wall. Do I need shielded cables? It will run parallel with 12/2 NM-B, Cat6a Ethernet, subwoofer, HDMI, and Coax.
