Home Theater Help Needed

New Guy here and I'll jump right in with lots of questions.
Near the end of a room remodel and before the drywall goes up I need to decide what speakers to use. The attached picture shows the location of the TV in relation to the couch and because of other factors the layout cannot be changed.

So I would like a system that makes me feel like this guy
Maxell_zps0fb6abc9.jpg

But the area is small so I'll settle for great sound. A 5.1 surround is planned
Skimming through this site and others has answered some questions but there is still the "how big" question.
My original plan was to buy the Polk RM510 or the RM6750 over at Newegg and given the area this is probably the way to go for movies, but will I like this for music? I'm having doubts over packaged speaker systems.
So the Maxell guy in me says Monitor 75T or 70 Series II with maybe a CS2 center and I don't know surrounds and subwoofer?
Can someone give me some advice?

Those packaged systems will do nothing to blow you away, so your correct in that aspect. The monitors with the center you mentioned is a nice setup, add a good sub and your good to go. Problem I see, is that judging by your drawing, are you trying to get the whole system on the right side of the fireplace ? Where's the tv going ?

My room is similar, only 24 by 24 but my fireplace and windows are the same as yours. The long wall is the best option, but then there's that damn fireplace. So I used it in the corner on an angle, same as your diagram to the right of the fireplace.

The tough part of the layout is working everything into that side of the fireplace. The bottom of the TV to floor is about 42". I had read somewhere that the front 3 speakers should have the tweeters on the same plan at about ear level when sitting. With the TV at this height I have room below for a center speaker and with the height of the Monitors everything should line up.

Generally speaking, your correct. However the problem will be the room. You only have a 10 ft. depth and your positioning it on one side will lend it self to bleed to the other side. Sound works of reflections in the room, if there's nothing to reflect that sound back at you in your listening position, on the left side, then it won't sound quit right.

Still think your best option is to place the tv in the corner on an angle with the couch more centered in front of the fireplace. In the end, we all do what we can with the rooms we have. Also, the front left and right speaker will need to be off that back wall a good foot, maybe 1.5 feet. so keep that in mind as well. Play around with positioning, experiment alittle to see what floats your boat. Nothing is written in stone.

Is there a list somewhere that has the timbre matches for Polk speakers?

Each of polk's lines are timbre matched. The Monitor line is matched to work with all speakers in that line. Same with the RTI-RTIA-LSI-LSIM. Each one is timbre matched to their own associated lineup in that given model line.

Does that mean you can't use one line that isn't timbre matched to another ? Not really, may sound different, but most keep the front 3 speakers timbre matched and if anything, the surrounds need not be.

I'll throw in my 2 cents.

I would probably run RTI A3 and CSI A4 for front stage. Set the A3's about a foot from the back wall, and a few inches from the window wall and side of the fire place. Couch about a foot off the rear wall. Mount FXI A4 about 5 feet high centered on the left and right seating position of you couch. Not perfect, but will be pretty close to good set up. May have to play with the front mains a little.

Add a Polk PSW 505, or better yet a SVA PB 1000, and you'll have a nice little set up.
