edited February 2014 in 2 Channel Audio
So Over the last year or so i have collected some pretty cool stuff in my 2 channel rig.

Lately I have been enjoying turning all 3 amps (1 is a receiver) on a cranking all 6 speakers + sub in the room. it has a pretty awesome effect, and IMHO sounds, and feels pretty awesome.

the monitor 5's LSi 9s and the LSIM's all seem to get along nicely, and on cold night the Marantz 2385, yamaha m80 and the tube amp bring the room up app 1.5 degrees :)

Either one of the combinations sounds very good, but all played together rocks

Is this stupid?

It really feels dynamic as hell, and certainly is not over driving anything at all but I keep wondering if I am violating any basic principles of audio and risking my sonic geek cred.

I call it Frankenriggin...kinda like Farfegnuggen but different.

Reminds me of a system I called "crackbaby" back in the day. Yes, you are missing something. It's called imaging. Enjoy in the meantime.

Nice, man. Obviously the stereo imaging is gone, but I'm sure it sounds cool. In a different house than I'm in now I used to do some multi-channel stereo stuff where I'd have something like 3 or 4 pairs of speakers on at the same time... it can create a very enveloping experience! Don't sweat the geek cred... hobbies should be about having fun, that's all that matters.

Who cares. Audio Cred doesnt matter as us keyboard jockey's dont make music sound worse to you.

If you like it Rock on.

It only matters how it sounds to you. Obviously your not going to get the "best" 2 channel sound, but again, rock on with your bad self.

Yes, you are crazy, in a good way. You are enjoying your system and music. Who cares what others think, if it sounds good to you that is all that matters.

Seems like what you're doing is setting an AVR to ALL STEREO SURROUND. It will certainly FILL up the room, but as said you may lose some location cues, etc. Probably fine as chilling muzak! I have to admit, the I occasionally do something similar in my home office as I have any number of vintage systems in there and can run three or four at a time.

    Enjoy!
