Just heard my first "real" SACD. Uh-oh! Gotta have more!

With my new Oppo BDP-103 I can finally enjoy Danny Elfman's "Serenada Schizophrana" in all its multi-channel glory. I simply cannot believe the impact, presence, and the feeling that the orchestra is a mere 15 feet away from me. I've heard this disc in stereo mode before so I wasn't expecting this amazing, intoxicating experience. This has led me to seek out more discs in this format.
So I ordered "World's Greatest Audiophile Vocal Recordings" which is from Chesky Records. I'm also looking at "Jazz at the Pawnshop" which seems to get some great reviews. I found the 30th Anniv. 3-disc box set on the Bay for $30. Are there any SACDs that are considered a "must-have" for music lovers? I cannot wait to hear more!

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions! I've got some work to do now. I have the regular CD of "Brothers in Arms" but I can't imagine it getting any better than that. Will probably be my next SACD.TV: 65" Samsung QLED 4K

So I ordered "World's Greatest Audiophile Vocal Recordings" which is from Chesky Records.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

When you get the WGAVR in, pay close attention to song number one by Rebecca Pidgeon. What's special about this SACD recording? Don't spoil it if you know the answer to this.

The Danny Elfman album is very good on SACD, that was a good title to start with, one of my favorite recordings on SACD actually

+1 AND most of EJ's discs are reasonably priced. I'd also recommend The Who's Tommy, Dire Strait's Brothers In Arms, Deep Purple's Machine Head and Steely Dan's Gaucho, if you're into any of those.
Oh, also since you got the Oppo 103, I'd recommend Rush's 2112 in 5.1 on BD-A.....exxxcellent. -

The 5.1 mix makes this album come alive! I know a few others on here that have it and like it as well. -

The best SACD I have heard to date is still Muddy Waters - Folk Singer
The power of Water's voice is on full presentation.
One of the only albums I can put in and really feel like I'm in the room with the band. -
I have that one on redbook CD, but I really wish I had the SACD!!
Another great older recording on SACD is Albert King's "I'll Play The Blues For You". It's one of my favorite recordings in my collection...
Got the Albert King one also. It is a great album!
I don't think I've EVER been let down by an Albert King album...
I own:
Born Under a Bad Sign (Vinyl)
I'll Play the Blues For You (SACD)
AK & SRV In Session
Wednesday Night in San Fran
Thursday Night in San Fran
Talking Blues
All of them are favorites of mine and have me standing up playing air guitar every time I spin them! I'm proud to say that one of the first names my older daughter ever spoke was "Albert King". -
I've got to get that In Session CD/DVD combo. I've looked at it many times, and don't know why I haven't picked it up yet...
Once you do, you'll smack yourself for waiting...
Hands down one of my favorite albums. -
+1 to DSOTM, Elton John, and Brothers in Arms

That is a tough call but yes I agree with Larry. I never ever listened to Elton before SACD,well except when it came on the radio. I have them all except Peachtree. Darn fine no two ways around it, let me also add they are also cheap. -

How about 2 channel SACD? Are some of these recommendations still worth getting? (I do not have 5.1 or surround anything, just no room for it.)

Doobie Brothers - What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits (2-channel only, but still glorious and lush)
H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music. -
Definitely, I usually listen to even my multichannel discs in 2 channel anyways.
Guess I need to get buying then. I picked up a Pioneer DV-45A the other month for $17 like new with remote because I heard it was a real good CD player that gets overlooked. -

SACD is, at its core, a 2 channel stereo format. Without a 2 channel stereo hi-rez DSD mix on the disc, Sony/Philips wouldn't (officially) recognize such a disc as a SACD. Multi-channel hi-rez mix and the CD layer are optional.
Regarding SACD software, check sa-cd.net for what titles have been released. If you see a title you like and it's available to you at a price agreeable to you, buy it. Prices on out-of-print SACDs are going through the roof. -
I've purchased most of mine used on Amazon for under $10. Granted they were all pretty popular ones. Would love to get my hands on Beck - Sea Change on SACD but $90 used is a tad out of my price range.Display: LG 47" LCD | AVR: Marantz SR5005 | BD: Panasonic BDT-210 | CD/SACD: Oppo 980 |
