How to hide wires in wall
Just thought this may be helpful to some one trying to mount surround speakers on the wall. I used a studfinder to locate the stud and mounted screws to stud for the speakers. I drilled a 1/2" hole just to the right of the stud for the speaker wire. I went and removed the base board and drilled a 1/2" inch hole near the floor and also just to the right of the stud. I tied a 1/2" or smaller fishing sinker to some line and dropped the fishing sinker into the hole at the top. I put a small bend or hook in the end of a piece of wire and put it into the lower hole and pulled the line through. I removed the sinker and tied the line to my speaker wire and wrapped the end of the wire with electrical tape so it would not snag as I pulled it through the wall. I then just pulled on the line at the top hole and pulled the speaker wire through. No crawling in the attic and drilling through the plates. The wires are run under the carpet but you could drill a hole near the baseboard and run the wire under the house. The baseboard and carpet should hide the hole in the floor. This will give speakers a custom look, no wires.. That new speaker wire that you paint is a good idea but this worked better for me. Hope this helps sombody.

Another way is to get a long lamp pull chain and use a magnet to pull it out the bottom hole. No fishing needed.

Hey I saw some a roll of this flat wire stuff that just sticks to your wall.... you can paint it or just leave it white. Anyone tried this stuff? Is it crap for sound quality and just strictly convience or does it work fine?

warlocksl, sound like another good idea.

Or just get a cable/wire puller

That will only work on non-insulated walls. If the wall is insulated you will need to use electricians fish tape. I've found that the flat steel kind works the best.Proud SOPA Member since 2005!
