1. I added a bead of hot glue between the ring and the cabinet to help avoid resonance.
2. The PR ring should be crimped so it can be bent and snapped in half.
3. Drill very carefully to avoid damaging the cabinets, and use armacell to make gaskets. Don't over tighten the armacell, tighten it to the point where you feel some torgue, then allow it to compress for two days, come back and tighten more until you feel the torque again, then allow to compress again for two days, then come back a third time and tighten fully.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -
I never needed to snap my PR rings in half just bend to get in and straighten back out. That poly is a very good idea as well as any oil base black paint I would think.

Poly as in polyurethane? I saw the little score marks on the rings- I guess that helps facilitate the bending. If the original gaskets are in good shape is there any need to replace?Speakers: Polk SDA-SRS xovers rebuilt by David, RDO194's, Dynamat, BH5, glued magnets, new cloth, custom aluminum terminal plates with Cardas posts and Speakon interconnect

you are correct on both accounts. no need to replace if in good shape -
I never used the poly, but that's a good idea. If you do snap the PR ring in half, it is still perfectly stable.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

There is no need to snap the ring in half, just a slight bend, and force it in, once inside bend flat..
I have always wanted to use poly on the edge but have never got around to do it.. -
Since you are working on CRS's, you should only have to bend the ring for the passive. All others should fit through the passive's hole no problem.
Also, I thought these rings are not currently available?
