I am going to purchase some speakers for a Home Theater but I am more concerned with cranking out some music. What compares with the Klipsch RF7 II?

Thanks for your opinion pitdogg2. This is hader than buying a car. Way too many choices. If anyone can give me a model of the Polk so I can compare side by side, I'd appreciate.
    Thanks.

Nobody is going to be able to give you a Polk model # that sounds like a speaker with a horn. Once you properly assimilate that, you'll be in a better position to ask questions. Maybe.

"Good Sound" by Laura Dearborn may be available in your local library.

OMG I know you are in search of...we can give you suggestions up and down a manufacturer's line but when you start comparing manufacturer to manufacturer that's where sound signatures can drastically change and only you will know what you prefer.

Time for you to get out and listen, take some music with you. You will also find some speakers work beter tan others pending on what genres you prefer.

    Thanks for your understanding.

I started out my quest thinking i wanted a Bose system because it sounded damn good. When I went to stores nothing sounded good, B&W or any other ones. Because of the crummy receiver they played it through. I am convinced I should not by Bose,

Read reviews and got to Polk, Very good things about polk floor standing speakers. Then someone recommended Klipsch with horns might be better for my type for musician/listeners like myself. I need to purchase based on good reviews and recommendations. Probably doesn't sound like a good plan but my ears don't know very good from a little better when standing in a store and don't want to make a wrong decision.

Great advice DSkip and its funny what you say about reviews and true. I'll have to find a good place to give a listen. I think there is a Fry's somewhere within 20 miles of me.

    Thanks a lot.

The setups may not be ideal, but you will at least get an idea of what you prefer.

Currently have SDA 1B, was looking for Klipsch RF7s for awhile but did not find any for sale in my price range or location.

I'm thinking that the SDA 1 series and the RF7 are about the same cabinet volume/size, although differently shaped.

Be careful with Klipsch, I think they've outsourced to China for a considerable portion of their product line. I heard that the RF7 IIs are Chinese, but I haven't verified that.

Absolutely awesome posts. I am now leaning towards the lsi line. Went to a store here in the Chicagoland area at lunch and got a lesson in A/V receivers. I do like the Elite SC 77 I think it was and I am no longer terrified of the ensuing set-up. Discussed this and the yamaha 2030. Bad selection of Polk's but they said they can order them......thanks but no thanks on that. There is a high end store not far from me. I don't know if they carry this middle end type of speaker. Will check.

I have had many different speakers models and brands, some sounded really good and some sounded really bad. I like the RTi series. if you like loud music....do not get the LSI series, they tent to brake badly at high volume. Klipsch are good, but they sound way too bright for me. I like the B&W speakers. But as many members said here, the best choice will be to audition the speakers before you buy them. bring your music that you know very well and ask them to play it loud. why loud? because most the speakers sound good at low volume. The other thing very important is the amplifier that you will be using with speakers.

I am flopping around like a fish out of water because I need a starting point. It may sound foolish but I don't have hours upon hours to check out all these products even though I know I need to. Plus, not all the places have all the components so it takes even more time. I know I should do it and will do as much as I can. I also know it is going to cost a small fortune and I am not rich and yes, once I make the purchase, I am stuck with it pretty much forever.

I am comforted knowing that I have listened to all of you (and taken from reviews quips about sound I'm looking for whatever they are worth) and now have so much more knowledge than I did when I began my search. I am very easily swayed but here is the deal, I know I am going to be blown away with any of these things I have finally narrowed it down to. I play music out of the Hitachi receiver I think I pulled out of someone's trash about 30 years ago. The speakers work when they want. I am taking a huge huge undertaking and I think whether the final purchase is the Rti's or the Lsi's CS77 or Yamaha 2030 I am going to be blown away. There are other players I need to look at like the Outlaw gear Lasareath has mentioned. I will listen to these items when I narrow it down if possible.

Please understand I am extremely grateful for all your posts and I have learned a huge amount of important facts that will help me pull the trigger. As a 51 year old guy that has played music since he was 5 yet never owned a decent system, I am like a kid outside the candy store looking in with my mouth watering. Hey if this is my mid life crisis, not too bad of a problem.

Last question, how do I sneak the big boxes in without the wife seeing them?

You say for cranking out some music these will do the trick and they are Klipsch would not mind these myself.
    http://quadcities.craigslist.org/ele/4291828688.html

As others have stated get out and listen, to some Polk's, Klipsch, B&W's listen to all you can you say this purchase must last then you want to demo as many as you can that's the fun part of searching for Speakers. That way you know your decision was the right decision. BTW I just saw your other post the RTIA7 and CSIA6 your thinking of getting would be a great choice.

Gudnoyez, I bet those Klipsch would sound awesome.

Dskip, I appreciate it. Will pass them down to my kids. I'll definitely go to Fry, I never thought of them as a decent place to get speakers probably because they are a bit of a drive but worth checking it out. Thanks.

You can not go wrong with the RTi series...I had the RTi-A1 and the sound was fantastic for small speakers. if you can, I recommend you to give them a try.

I had a set of Klipsch KG5.5 and thought they where the best speakers and would never sell them. Guess what? They are gone! Bested by some ratty Pioneer HPM-40s no less. I picked up the Pioneers as secondary speakers for another area of the house. After hooking them up in the same room as the Klipsch I could not believe how much better they sounded. Imaging and soundstaging like I never heard before and an actual midrange. The only part they failed in was the bass. One 10" vs. dual 10" in a larger encloser. Then I got a chance to listen to a buddy's Polks. WOW, they blow away the Pioneers and they are only Monitor 10s. I would love to hear some SDA magic even if I do not have the space to set them up.

I'm definitely going to tryout whatever RTI's and LSi's I find. I'll take a look at those RTi-A1's online as well, thanks Lanchile.

Hofy, great story and I'm glad it ended up that the Polk's were way better than the Pioneers.

About 8 years ago was the first time I ever heard the Klipsch name. A friend needed to sell Klipsch corner horns and I was a big ebayer/Craigslist seller. Corner Horns seemed to be the holy grail. Those monsters must have weighed 200 - 300 pounds each. Everyone wanted them when I listed them. So, in my mind when I started looking for speakers, I thought Kliptsch was probably some of the best (and I know they still are very good speakers). I was a little disappointed when I saw a box of Klipsch home theater speakers mixed in with the other cheap other brands. I guess they sold out a little but their good stuff is still good.
