box volume

Hi, I have a alpine type s 10" sub and made a box that is about .89 cubic feet. The manual says that the sub will work in anything between .6 and about 1 cubic feet. Now, I was wandering how much volume the magnet would take up so as to know how much to fill it, if I need to put that stuff in at all. Thanks.

It boggles my mind. Asking about an Alpine sub in a Polk Audio forum.
Most manufacturers list thier recommended enclosure volumes to include the displacement of the subwoofer itself inside the box. If you want to stuff it, I would not cram the box full of stuffing but rather line the sides of the box with a thin layer (about 1 inch thick) and leave it at that.
Another pet peeve I have is the word wandering.
wan·der ( P ) Pronunciation Key (wndr)
v. wan·dered, wan·der·ing, wan·ders
v. intr.
To move about without a definite destination or purpose.
To go by an indirect route or at no set pace; amble: wander toward town.
To proceed in an irregular course; meander.
To go astray: wander from the path of righteousness.
To lose clarity or coherence of thought or expression.
So please tell me how does that definition of the word wandering fit your useage in your post? I see this happen far too often from far too many people to be a typo.
Now, if you were wondering, that would be a different story.
won·der ( P ) Pronunciation Key (wndr)

It's not as bad as some people recommending competitors product to other forum members . -
Oh, so Josh wants to take cheap shots, huh?
Lobs one over from the peanut gallery. Didn't we all have this discussion before? Wasn't it said that if Polk offered something that was worth recommending for a particular instance, it would get recommended?
You should also look up the idea of a free market and see how competition helps your business much more than it hurts it.
I'll push Polk Audio stuff as much as I can because I as a consumer believe in what I spend my money on and Polk Audio provides a high quality product at a low price. But I have yet to see any paycheck, incentive or even gift from Polk Audio for schilling thier gear for them. Being as I am not compensated for my time in recommending Polk Audio or any other gear for that matter, I'll continue to not care about your crying to everyone because we don't go all ///POLK **** on every poor schmuck that naively wanders in to this forum.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Whoa, whoa!! Calm down!
I wasn't even talking about you. Somebody have a guilty conscience? It just seems that nobody ever says "Hey, why don't you try the MM124?" or "The MM6 is a good component system.". All I ever hear is "IDMAX this" and "insert component system here". If everyone on here owns Polk, where is the brand loyalty? I don't think I've ever seen anybody recommend Polk products.
Please don't turn this into a pissing match. I am just inquisitive. -
No, no guilty conscience here just don't like my integrity being questioned.
I'm one of the first people to recommend Polk Audio. Not only here but when people ask for recommendations in person.
As far as anyone recommending Polk products, you should check out the forums more often because in all the rec's I see, Polk Audio is always mentioned along with a few competitors.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

when polk starts making a 1000watt dvc sub that sounds as good and priced as well as the id max....ill recommend it
until then...no
polk makes some very good products
i have 2 mm124s and a mm6 comp. sys.
im not trying to diss polk
but if i was rich, i wouldnt buy polk
problem is im not...
but until them...polk makes awesome speakers for the price...it bothers me that you say polk isnt recommended on this site...its usually the first thing recommended
did u ever get a chance to read the "dilemma" post?
its now in the hall of shame
might want to check that out...there was a lot of ppl defending polk

If I was rich, I'd still buy Polk Audio products.
After all, a fool and his money are soon parted. Why blow all my money on excessivly expensive speakers that offer marginally better performance than Polk speakers for 3-4 times the price. There are very few exceptions to that rule in both home and car audio.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

heh heh -- i think i started a pissin match with the IDmax thing...
i pretty much reccomend two subs when people are hunting the 400 - 750 watt range -- the polk momo and the alpine R
when they want something above that... or want a single sub that'll do what two momo's would do, then i start spouting idmax and soundstream davinci or whatever...
when they want a smaller sub - ie 250 - 400 watts, i usually throw up three subs... cheap = JBL GT ... or if they're willing to spend a modest amount of money (and in the same turn get what they pay for - a good sub) I reccomend the new 'baby' momo's that are 3 and 400 rms, as well as the IDQ line.
the only other sub i can think of that i really pushed ont hese boards is the phoenix gold titanium 10 and 12... and hte only reason was because they tote ratings similar to the 400 and 500 watt momo subs, work in the same size boxes, but were on sale at sounddomain for like 69 bucks or something on refurb/closeout... so anybody looking for a momo-like sub that was rock bottom cheap could have gotten them at a steal.
other than that i prettymuch stick the middle field ... since the introduction of the new polk lineup (highs / subs / amps) i've been impressed with the "newside" of polk and have been much more "pro-polk" than in my "bitter" days.
i'd like to think myself a proud polk speaker owner and to be pleased with the polk i own as well as the newer polk on the market.
while i'm not strictly going to buy polk, look at it this way... the only reason i went to an IDmax sub was because my hearing has gone so far to **** that I am utterly deaf to much else... and polk can be proud to say that it was their speakers that made me deaf in the first place... so see, it's all your fault polk! (insert hearty chuckle).
and first 200 bucks i come across i'm snaggin a set of momo comps off ebay... i gotta takemy door panels off anyway, might as well upgrade even tho my dx's are still good... i'm sure i can find a use for the mid's (tweets are busted). The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -
oh and to the kid w/ the alpine type S...
the type R 10's are happy in like 0.75 to 1 cubic foot.
the type S probably would be happier in 0.65 to 0.75... now 0.89 isn't too far off... it's still under that 1 ft mark... dont count the magnet displacement for much... its frickin miniscule and i dont think alpine has already considered it in their design. The Artist formerly known as PoweredByDodge -
If I was rich, I'd start been the biggest Exclusive Polkaudio Dealer in my country. It is easier to sale a high-end stuff with high quality at reasonable price than stuff that only can be reached for few ppl.
I'd made more $$... -

personally i wander on a regular basis...
PBD CC roadshop 2701 currently has an open box set of mm6's that were the display model available for under 100 dollars. go to your local store and see if there's any way to get them shipped there for ya... it is possible that they've sold by now cause that's a dang good price
personally i reccomend polk interior speakers to anybody that even brings up car audio in my presence. however i tend to lean toward more powerfull subs and amps. If you can put together something that can compete with 2 10" diamond audio TDX subs and a US Amps 2000x then i'll gladly buy that instead but you just don't have anything at that levelHemi: (HEM -e) adj.
