To go with my new front stage I went ahead and ordered the Oppo BDP-103. So what improvements will I hear after upgrading from my old Magnavox DVD player? I'd be interested to hear what people who have to say who've upgraded to one from an old cheapo BDP.

I use the Oppo 103, and the picture definitely improved over the Oppo 93. The sound is great for movies, but I do not use it for music. It certainly lives up to its hype in my book.

The 'hype' is really more about their higher end players. The 103 will have superb video quality, the 105 is where you start getting into reference quality audio performance for music.

At $499 I would hope "the hype" would apply to the 103 also?

It does, at least for video.

Im interested in purchasing one primarily to take advantage of the ability to hook up an external video source through the rear hdmi and take advantage of the Qdeo processor. Has anyone done it and what kind of results did you get?

Has anyone connected a DirecTV receiver to it? That is what I intend to do.

I read that a Dish Hopper was connected but they had lip sync issues. This is an obvious concern of mine. Was the picture improved?

    Thanks

Nice, more reasons to consider the 103D.

I have an Apple TV and Dish Hopper connected to my 105D. Through the rear HDMI port I had severe audio dropouts with the rear port, but the front port works perfectly. I contacted Oppo customer service and this is a known issue and engineering is working on a firmware fix for this. I just got mine last Thursday so hopefully this issue will be fixed soon as I would rather not have an HDMI cable sticking out of the front.

ROH, congrats on the new 103! Zane, one thing about Oppo CS, they will___ get to the bottom of this issue and come up with the firmware upgrade.

The rear HDMI uses the Qdeo Processor, the front does not...from what I read. My objective is to optimize my video and use the Qdeo processor. I have a couple Pioneer Elite receivers with the Qdeo processor and love it. I also have an SC-07 that I want to use the Oppo 103 - so I can basically upgrade the video. I know these dropout issues will probably get resolved...eventually. Until then, I may have to put a hold on this Oppo purchase.

Anyone try an Oppo 103 or 105 on a DirectTV?
