I wonder what a person has to do to activate a menu screen with this damned Denon remote? The receiver has connections running to and from DVD player, VCR, TV/DBS ... what else does it want from me?

Still having problems, huh? If you've got the composite (RCA-type cable) running from the yellow jack on the receiver that says "monitor out" to an input on the TV, and the TV's set to that input, you should have the connections needed for the display to work. The reason I say use the composite video, is I'm not sure the S-video will work for the OSD for that receiver. It might, but I know the composite will.
I have the 3801, and the remote is different. On mine I have to use the remote to bring up the on screen display, and the button on the remote says "OSD".
I don't think that's anything I didn't tell you before, but that's all I can think of.... I guess it's possible that you have a malfunctioning receiver, but I would think that would be unlikely.
Good luck!

Hi:
Have you read the manual that came with your Denon to see how it says to set up your on screen display?

Hi, you have to have a video connection from the monitor out on the reciever and depending what video out you are running
(component:s-video:analog) some recievers you have to have that source switched correctly to display it. Later:) -
jcaut, thank you so very much ... it worked! Finally, months later I have screen; I'm sorry for not thanking you the first time around, but I was so frustrated that I lost my composure and was rendered unable to show my gratitude. For people like me, it takes methodical and accurate, detailed instruction before we know what is actually required of us. Thanks for understanding.

I'm just glad to see you got it working. If it's like mine, you need it to adjust your speaker configuration, among other things.
Merry Christmas!!
