What a bummer, my TV is finally taking the dive. I've gotten my money's worth out of it, poor girl is like 10 or so.

:(

But we know what that means:D

OK. Here's the parameters:

High def monitor (I'm getting a SAT system in the very near future)
1080i

at least 60"-65" RP

Don't need speakers. SQ I have.

budget - 2k to 3.5k (I'd like to keep it low if I can. Guess that rules out the 65" plasma!!)

Please flood me with suggestions!!!

    check out this thread:

    http://clubpolk.polkaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6997&perpage=40&highlight=samsung%20hdtv&pagenumber=1

the other one that you might want to check is Pioneer Elite PRO530/630/730HD, price might be over the top, but an older line can be had within your budget. Have fun!
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I would HIGHLY recommend you take a look at this one...
    http://www.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL027102&page=2

That's the one I have after a long search and many reviews. I demoed Sony's, Toshiba's, Mitsubish's, and Hitatchi's. This was the best. Blacks are dead black, colors are rich and detailed, and bright scenes in a dark room make you squint.

I love mine and wouldn't have done it differently. JVC's stretch modes are the greatest. I prefer "Cinema". It doesn't stretch anything, it just zooms in a little to fill up the screen. You loose about 1" on the top and bottom of the screen which is fine except for things like CNN with tickers, you'll only see about half of the ticker. There is also "Panorama". It leaves the center of the screen untouched but stretches progressively to the edge of the frame. It also up converts all signals to either 1080i or 1080p, I don't remember. It comes with the DVI input also.

Of all the units I brought home to check out, this one won hands down.
    Go BIG or go home!

I'm in the same boat as you. I've checked CC, GG, Sears and local big screen store. Hitachi 65S700=$ 2,799 sears, Toshiba 65H93 Sears = $2,499. Mits 65" range all over the place $2,500 to $ 5,000. According to all salemen at different stores each one is rated #1 by consumer reports??????

I have had my 55" mitsubishi hdtv for about 3 years (always 1st on the block)...recently it has started to lose convergence for some reason, maybe a short somewhere. When I bang on top of the tv it snaps back into convergence sometimes for awhile and sometimes for a minute or two, very annoying when you are trying to relax to a movie, I have lost faith in mitsubishi tvs because of it...RPTVs never look as good as a glass tube, plasma, lcd or dlp...considering the big investment i would recommend holding off until you can afford a plasma or anything else...also consider this (something I found out later) my 55 inch mitsu has 7" lenses, my buddies' 65 inch has 9 inch lenses...9 inch lenses are capable of delivering true hdtv detail something the 7 inch lenses cant do...

    Lsi9,
I've had my 55" Mits for about the same amount of time and have never had to smack it around to get it to work!;)

As for PQ, the Mits is one of the top performing RPTV's available! I'm constantly amazed at the HD picture quality and can honestly say that the only RPTV that looked better was the Pioneer Elite.

Dollar for Dollar there is no comparison to DLP Technology. A RCA 61" DLP Monitor will accommodate your price range at the high side of 3.5K. I know a lot of people tought Plasma but the Technology is nothing more than a novelty. Also with regard to 1080i. Set to 720p when ever possible. 720p offers superior motion picture quality to 1080i.

As far as picture quality I perfer the Mits RPTV over plasma. I have been very happy with my Mits and when people come over and see the HDTV they are floored, having a full Polk HT doesn't hurt the experience either.

If you do spend the $ for a good TV I would suggest getting the extended warrenty. Things break and if you spend 2-3000 in the first place you might as well spend a few hundred more and make sure it's going to last.

Look at all the options the TV has as well. Mits has the NetCommander and other misc features that when put together with the picture quality really make it stand out from the others.
