Just picked up a 39" secondary tv for a crazy low price. Good picture, but the sound is gawd awful. I hooked up a pair of altec lansing computer speakers and it helped, but it doesnt really get loud enough. Have the tv volume and speaker volume up all the way. Is there a powered speaker that has a 3.5 mm jack that would hook into the headphone jack on the tv?

You could always get a 3.5mm to RCA splitter and hook up anything you want.

Dont think the tv amp would power a passive speaker very well.

Yeah, surroundbar with a wireless sub is the way to go.
