Picking SRS's : TL'd 1.2's / original SRS's

Well, after spending a entire day listening to the TL'd 1.2's, I finally really started to hear the differences. It wasn't the OMG experience of first seeing/ hearing the SRS's, but more like expanding on the original. That being said, we're keeping the old set. For one, the 1.2's need a lot of TLC; complete re-fabric, new bases, refinish tops & sides. The other factor is the wife. She likes the old ones (couldn't tell a difference). Down the road, I plan on sending my x/o's to VR3, now that I have a taste of what's to come. A third factor is my first set is mint. Really mint. I've got the original paper work, including the receipt. I also like the idea that these are the ones that started it all (they're '85's), at least as far as SRS's go. I'm sure there are those that might not agree with this decision, but there it is. Thoughts?

I recently acquired two pair of SDA 2.3's, one was the TL model. I just sold the original 2.3 version and will be keeping the TL model. These things happen. It's a shame the 1.2's were not as advertised, condition wise, sounds like that might have made a difference in your decision.

Yep... you ill be able to recover your investment from parting them out, but that would be such a shame. I am also looking for a pair of passives for my SRS/M project.

Not to HiJack but pulled the plug on my SRS 1.2's. Just bought the RDO 198. Total price was 414.72. Not off to Trey/Vr3 and maybe a dreadnaught. Found out my adcom 5500 is not a common ground and had the polarity reversed. Leason learned,
    W4S SX-1000, Adcom gfp-750, Polk 1.2tl, W4S DAC 2 DSDse, 2012 mac mini (mod), JRivers ver. 19, WD Cloud NAS 2 t.b., Monster Cable AVS-2000 signature, Doug's Alpha I/C & Doug's biwire 6' speaker cables

I am hoping I don't have to resort to parting them out, they are an icon. IMHO. I'm trying to work something out with my friend, but I can't take a big hit on these. The wife will never let live it down.

once your wife hears them, she will understand. My mother almost beat me to death in the driveway when I brought a pair of 1.2TL's home for my father when I was on a trip in another state. We set them up and she was happy to see us enjoying the sound and even liked it herself...

I think it will be worth the work for you.

I found those feet and will send them out this week.

That's very generous of you, thank you. The wife loves the speakers. She just wants to keep the old ones. I can live with that. I feel lucky I got to keep them in the first place.

Bring them back if you are not satisfied. You stood in the driveway, shook my hand and thanked me. You saw the condition of the speakers in the house and took them anyway. You did not buy blind so the burden is solely on you. You got a great deal on them. I gave you the 2 extra bases and an extra driver. I sold you 8 working SL2000 tweeters for $100. You are not a victim. Sorry for the rant. I have been a part of this board since it's inception and I will not let my name be smeared any more.

If you read all my posts here, you would know I'm not blaming you for anything. The cond. was worse than described, but again, it was my choice. Don't worry about it. I'm not.

I've read all the posts and I never had the impression that you were being trashed personally. I understood from drumiv's posts that the condition was less than the pics, but that the he was happy with the purchase overall. We all know that pics often may not be accurate due to lighting, the camera used, settings, etc.

No parting out. My friend/ tech. is going to take them, as is. On another note, there's a set of tl'ed 2.3's on ebay, with Tiger maple tops that has me thinking..........

I'm saying good bye to the 1.2's today. I'll post pics of them with my other set, as soon as I get help uploading them. I'd of loved to have been able to keep both sets, but my better half said "no way". I also would have liked to hear them both in a quad set-up. That would have been something.

Do that quad setup before he takes them... you will punish yourself if you don't.

Don't waste your time on the quad set up. Been there done that and all it does is muck up everything. 1 pair of sda's per room just like everyone here told me to do at the start of my sda journey is truly the one and only way to listen to them.

^^^ Lol... everybody knows that, but still, the experience of having two pairs of the big girls in a room at the same time should still be experienced if they are already there to begin with.

To late for the quad. The only way I could have done it would have been to have my other Parasound, which is what I was picking up as I dropped off the speakers. Still, it would have been cool. I'm a little sad they're gone, but I love the one's we kept. Sorry to toolfan66, and others that wanted the parts, but keeping those together was the right thing, I think.
