I have a friend with a Pioneer SX-737 receiver who says the "radio bleeds into the phono and auxiliary. Anybody have any thoughts on what's going on? Also, can she connect a separate preamp to that receiver? Thanks in advance for any help.

I do believe radio shack has them (phono pre-amp) & can be hooked into AUX or TAPE if aux is messing up to. Or have it serviced is the best bet
    ..
EDIT- have you tried deoxit on the controls ?

I don't think that the SX-737 has pre out/main in connections; I know that the previous model year's SX-727 does not.
www.hifiengine.com may well have the manual.

The radio bleed is an odd problem - maybe an issue with a dirty function selector switch?

    Hello,
One approach would be to select the FM muting button on the upper right of the front panel, then de-tune whatever radio station was selected. In effect putting the receiver's tuner between stations and with the muting engaged there won't be any sound. Then select phono or auxiliary with no interference.

I hope it helps your friend. Many internal input selectors will short out any non-selected sources, leaving the selected source connected. The problem can be with units that allow for one source to be recorded (or chosen as a second "zone" source) and another source chosen for main listening. This design would use a non-shorting selector and there could be bleeding of strong inputs.
    Cheers, Ken

This problem accompanied Carver HR-752 receivers right out of the box in the early 90's. There were a lot of them.

That wasn't an uncommon problem with receivers in the 70's/80's. I used to do what Ken mentioned, because I am supremely anal about background interference/noise.

Any update on this receiver ? I talked to my friend who has this very same receiver & he had the same issue & it came right out of it when he cleaned all the buttons & knobs. He has it hooked to a new turntable & tape player & is listens to FM alot. He really enjoys the Pioneer alot.

Over the decades lots of pre-amps had input cross-talk issues. Typically it happens when one input has a strong signal and then they switch to an input that has nothing connected to it. Try plugging a music sourch into the input, set the level for reasonable loud, then pause the music.

Almost all Pioneer silver face, Sansui, Kenwood, Technics and Realistic receiver of that time that I had always came with radio bleed.
I had to use Phono button activated for a clean sound from other inputs.

    Klipsch RB81, KG3.5, B&W DM602.5, Polk.
Subwoofers: Klipsch RW10, Triad ProSub Bronze.
