So I am curious if this product exists...... a passive pre DIY kit.... but with a remote option for volume control min, would love input switching, but I since I need to get up for the TT thats not as big a deal. I realize the remote dial needs power to function, but am curious if there is a passive kit out there, that you can then add a remote control too and power the switch portion with say a wallwart or something.
Ideally it would have a phono input and one set of RCA's.
So if you've seen a decently priced kit, let me know.....

Well, I found some built units, but they certainly aint super cheap...
Option 1 (can add remote): http://www.akustyk.com/
-adding the remote and the other upgrades looks like it takes it to 600 plus
Option 2 (no remote, great if using studio monitors and a external dac on the pc): http://luminousaudio.com/axiom2.html
-much lower buy in, but not ever possible to add a remote, other chassis looks MUCH better....
Still open to other options.
I can buy the chassis from option 1 independently so I could always add different internals...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
I've been eying this for a bit:

LDR based passive board, buy their optional remote for $50 or use an Apple remote and save a couple bucks. You can also buy a digital display from them now, but in order to have remote input switching capability you'd need to fashion a relay board. They include instructions on how to do it, but no parts kit right now.
Something to take into consideration, however, is that it requires either a tube amp or a solid state amp with at least 40-50k ohm input impedance.Wristwatch--->Crisco -

Both these are great preamps, although one is resistor based and one is pot based.
Another fun option is to get a passive preamp from Goldpoint, then install a motor on it from Bent Audio.

Strider: This this board a full on pre? Or are you able to utlize JUST the remote control functions to put into an existing pre-amp?"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." It's a board, although the company does offer fully built preamps using the same technology. If you had the real estate inside an existing preamp, you could replace the volume potentiometer with the Tortuga board and gain remote volume control functionality while upgrading to an LDR style volume control. You could also use the Tortuga board quite easily as a stand alone passive preamp with a single input if you didn't need any more gain. You'd need to provide a power source for the board either way.Wristwatch--->Crisco
