Worth watching.

Tom Hanks is a National Treasure. He just never seems to over ham it up.

I didn't think it was all that great. Good movie in general, but nothing fantastic. One scene in particular when he was in the life boat and pulls out a pocket knife in front of his captors. Seriously ? One....they didn't pat you down for weapons. Two...you pull the knife out like it's no biggie in front of the captors ? Nah, they won't mind their prisoner has a knife...lol.

Tom Hanks as usual though is a great actor and of course was excellent. The script however could have been better.

Decent movie but the story line is not even two lines.
Captain is captured by pirates and US army/seal releases him by killing the pirates.
    Done! That's it.
The real talent is to extend that one line story to a full movie.
Okay but nothing I want to watch again.

It is based on a real story so those who read news once in a while already know what happens.

I tend to agree with tonyb. It was a good movie, not great. The best acting occurred at the very end when Tom Hanks is being checked out by the naval doctor. I was impressed however, with the acting of the Somali pirates. Apparently, they were hand picked for the part but were not professional actors. Again, not great acting but good for a movie of this magnitude. This was based on a true story, but several actual crew members paint Captain Phillips in a very different light.

I thought it was really well done. Just when I thought it was winding down comes the scene at the end with the Naval Dr., the most emotional scene in the movie. Tom Hanks for my money is always worth watching, and the main Somali Pirate did a great job as well.

If I didn't know it was a true story I would have thought the shots the SEALS took were Hollywood BS. Probably the most difficult imaginable under those circumstances.

Watched it last night; it was a really good movie. But with all the controversy surrounding what was in the movie and what ACTUALLY happened it kind of took the "realness" out of the movie. I know its Hollywood and they need to embellish, but the fact that they claim this guy was such a hero just doesn't seem to be accurate with all the accounts that are coming out now.

Thers a lot of fiction being sold as fact these days, so, ust to clarify, the movie is not a "true story" any more than "JFK" is the true story of the assassination or "The Social Network" is the true story of Facebook's founding.

Re: true story, should have written the part of the story dealing with the shots made by Seal Team 6 was true. I've read accounts by the crew, which paint Phillips in a much less favorable light than the movie portrays him.

Agreed; that's what I was referring to; the SEAL team actions are true undeniably.
