I'm planning to buy a pair of used Aviano 1s. The existing setup has a Rotel960BX with the Parasound 850 preamp. Will these go well with the Aviano 1s? The specs from what I can gather -

Aviano 1 -
Sensitivity (db/w/m) 88
Impedance (ohms) 8
Max power handling (watts) 100

Rotel -
Output power: 60W into 8 ohms (17.8dBW).
Peak current: 30A into 0.1 ohm, 10µs.
Input sensitivity: 1V RMS.
Input impedance: 27k ohms.
Frequency response: 15Hz–100kHz, –1dB.

I listen to music 90% of the time. Wife and kid may watch movies but not often. I don't have a sub and the cd player is a playstation 1 and the ipod.

Thank you for your input.

Those speakers are said to mate best with warm gear. Perhaps someone who's heard your amp and preamp can comment on their sound.

From the internets - The Rotel amps tend to the bright, punchy and detailed side of things.

I guess that means they are not warm gear. My hunt for good a speaker pair continues.

Wharfedale Diamond 10.1, and Monitor Audio BX2. Those two always make the 'best of' lists in that price range.

IMO building a system around an existing amp is usually a mistake, unless you're talking about a really special amp. The Rotel is nice, but not special.

Everything matters, but I think speakers have the biggest impact on sound. I would start by auditioning lots fo speakers and find the sound you like, start with the speakers and then build the rest of the system around those.

Another option is to get a very neutral sounding high end amp that could serve as the foundation of your system for decades, something like a Parasound that tends to mate will with almost any speaker out there.

I just think it's a mistake to build a system around that Rotel amp. Its a nice amp, but not something that I'd intentionally build around.

I would dump that amp. It wasnt nice when it was new and its not nice now.
It was a cheap entry level amp rotel produced to move product.

I like Rotel ( I even use it myself).
Their new stuff is trash. Triggers come broken, sound cheap, chassis are flimsy. Word is that the next product lineup will address all of these issues.

but for good used rotel product check

I can't afford to make a whole system change right now. I can buy the speakers now and change the amps later. I thought the Rotel was a good entry level amp? It is a used one I bought from someone here as well as the preamp.

I have a Sonic Tamp too. Will that be a better one than the Rotel Parasound combo? Please don't say yes.

I bought the Energy RC-10 from the recent Frys sale and they sound very good. The bass is not so good but I really like the vocals. I'll start upgrading the wires and connectors next. Thanks for all the help.

Manual says 100 hrs break in. Do they really need it? That seems like a long time. I have not used the port plugs and the speakers are 9 inches away from the wall. I can't keep them any further but this sounds ok to me.
