It amazes me what people will set out on the curb for 'bulk trash day'.

Couple of minor grill snags, and the 10 inch woofs foam is shot (I just removed one woof)- but I'm a VERY happy camper to say the least.

HAD to share with someone. Problem is, after I have the woofs foamed this week, where do I put them? Gosh, I might have to unload them to someone on the cheap ;) .

Cheers,
Russ

It's amazing the stuff you come home with and my hat is off to you for saving so many pieces from the dump. I have to ask though, do you knock on the door and ask them if you can take it or is it more like smash and grab? ;)

Dang!! You mean somebody was just going to trash them??

Russ: These are coming along nicely. If my initial listening tests hold up, they're going to sound pretty good, too. Want 'em back?

    Jason,

Hey, those are turning out REAL neat. Did you order another identical TB woof?

I'd love to have em, just make sure you sign the back for me. Email me if you do ever want to un-**** them. I'm THRILLED to see the extra cabs and drivers I had laying around go to good use!

    Jesse,

Hey, if it's on the curb, and there is no moving van in sight, its fair game. I will say this, there is VERY little hesitation, I load em just as fast as someone stealing them would.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Actually, to my left is John Day. I was checking out his hand-made tube monoblocks, and backloaded horns.

Another tid-bit, that was the day I picked up my 12ft folded bass horn, which John Day designed and built himself - AND you can see in the background of the first pic in this post.

    Cheers,

Great find Russ. Are those super tweeters on the very top?

I didn't know you got a bass horn. How does it sound? Can you post a close up pic please?

    Russ,

Got another tidbit for ya, the gent that designed those lives about 20 miniutes from here and still has a very small business going there. His last name is watkins and worked for infinity in the 80's as one of their chief designers. There have been a few of his own models with his name on them up for grabs on ebay and they all start the model name with wsc, keep your eyes peeled for these as he is up in his late 70's and is talking about closing up shop.

Maurice, there is a 3" mid-dome (600-2000Hz), and above that is an Emit Ribbon Tweeter (2000-25000Hz).

    Sid, haircut tomorrow.

Mark, you got it, those are the 4" model.

Mike, very familar with the Watkins woofers in the early Infinity speakers. Although lean on content, I still have Mr. Watkins website in my favs.

    Cheers,
    Russ

The RS IIIB was the speaker I bought to replace the AR 9Lsi I spoke of awhile back. I think I did this around 1985'ish; Russ, you need to buy a lottery tickect brother, you have a knack for finding awesome classics.

My only heartache with these was that the tweeters were very prone to blowing. I had to replace both through the 2 years I had my set.

I used to have a couple pair of Infinity Qb's with an Emit Ribbon. Never had a tweeter issue - but different model, different time frame - who knows.

Just dropped the woofs off at my foam shop, I should have them back by weeks end. Then, off to the bay more likely than not.

    Cheers,

I'm pretty sure the tweeter blowing was my fault, I was a young audio-nerd then and running a graphic equalizer (because it looked really cool) which I'm sure contributed to the tweeters' early demise...

Woofs are back in, and WOW. TONS of clean low end on these pups, and SEALED too.

The tweet and mid pots on the rear need a shot of deoxit, but WOW. I should have never listened to these. I need to just pretty 'em up and get my sell on.

    Cheers,
    Russ

The bass is incredible, deep and distortion free.
