Hi all,

New to the Polk fam but very happy to join. Here's my set up and the situation question I need help with: Energy RC10 Fronts and Center, Energy RC minis surround, *former* Energy CB5 rears. One of the CB5s crapped out on me and it's out of warranty. Newegg had a pretty sweet deal on some Monitor 30s so I ordered those right away--never heard them, went purely on reviews (I know I know: "never buy without hearing," well I've had experiences with various Polk products in the past and love what they make, so I trust reviews and didn't want to pass up the deal, I can always return if need be)

My question is this: Instead of putting the Monitor 30s up in the rear, would they be better suited as LR surrounds in place of the Energy RC minis (thus moving the minis to the ear locations)? I started to think that the bigger woofer size of the monitors MIGHT help out with reproducing big movie effects since they would be able to push more air, and they go a tad lower in frequency (RC Mini 80-23k, Monitor 30 55-25k) so I thought they might also fill out the scenes a little better.....OR would this expanded range be better suited in the rear to cover any lows that get sent to the surround rears? (I use a dedicated sub so I didn't think this would be too much of an issue).

So what would you do: Energy RC Mini surrounds/ Polk Monitor 30 rears or Polk Monitor 30 surrounds/Energy RC Mini rears, and why?

Thank you!

    Welcome to the club!

The M30's are a great surround speaker. But to solve your dilemma, I would test the 30's in both positions to see how they blend with your other speakers.

You may love the way they sound as L/R, or you might not like the way they try to integrate with the Energy center.

Time to get your hands dirty.
