What sub to keep
I currently have a Velodyne DEQ-10r and it has been a great sub. Now,my room has less than ideal acoustics and there isn't a whole lot I can do for it. Its a pretty open 100'is sq ft. and has a hallway. Here's the thing, I found a Micropro dsw3000 used for $240 locally and I'm set to go look at it in an hour or so.
So we are talking about a sealed front firing sub with a pr vs a front firing-front ported design, auto eq aside, I'm curious if anyone has had experience with both subs, what they prefer and why. It's either going to be paired with my sda's or my ls90's, although im leaning towards leaving it with the sda's. Ultimately I want to have a 2ch listening room with my sda's and put the ls90's to ht duty.
Just from browsing it looks like $240 is a steal for the sub, and I'll probably buy it just because of that. If I don't enjoy it I will find it a new home.
I appreciate your time and input CP.
Thanks.

Ok, so I lied a bit, and the edit button is now gone so, seems its closer to 600 sq. ft. instead of what was supposed to say 1000 with all the doors closed.Receiver: Yamaha RX-V667

Ok. Ended up getting the sub. and right now I have mixed feelings. it does blend amazingly well with my sda's, but im not sure it has quite the presence the velodyne has. Obviously sealed vs ported. Seems when I had the volume up a ways I was getting some odd noice coming from the sub. almost seemd like the pr was hitting something. going to tone the volume down a bit. the finishe is overall very good on the speaker. sadly the guy nicked the corner getting it out of his car. is there any way to repair the damage on the piano finish? and also is there a safe way to effectively polish - remove light scratches from the finish?Receiver: Yamaha RX-V667

Ok. I hooked up the Velodyne and the Polk MP3k, and the Polk definitely does not dig as deep or hit as hard in lfe tracks as the Velodyne. In fact if I set the Polk to even 30 volume out of 40 while watching Battleship for example, it sure puts on a show. Heavy excursion, and wanting to literally hop around. But at that volume I get some bad distortion from it so I have to turn it down to about 25. At that point I can power on and off the Velodyne and its like the Polk may as well be nonexistent. With the amount of excursion im seeing the output of the sub seems well below what I think it should be.
Its as if the Velodyne kind of just laughs and say here's how its done boy, and shakes the room with ease. Is the Polk speaker possiby blown but still working ok at low levels?(seems to sound ok with 2ch music) If so no biggie I'll order a new driver for it. but if not I'm quite dispointed in its performance.Receiver: Yamaha RX-V667
