My yamaha can go down to 6 ohms there is a switch in the back and I was wondering if my speakers can handle it I got the cs1000p ls90s and a bpx from deftech.
Wish I was a polkologist then I could call my self Dr.warviper.

    You've got 8-ohm speakers...

Please explain ohms to me. If I had 2 ohms speakers then only a 2 ohm amp would be able to play them?

An Ohm is a unit of opposition to current flow. Ohm's Law is one Volt will push one Amp through one Ohm of resistance. Basically the lower the nominal impedance the more current that will flow. Current produces heat which can melt or shorten the life of a component in the amp or speaker.

If you had 2 Ohm speakers then you would only use an amp rated for 2 Ohms.

I think you mean low impedance. The current LSi speakers are 4 Ohm nominal impedance.

Yes your speakers will work fine. You probably won't have enough power to really drive the ls90's, but you will not hurt anything as long as you don't crank it for long periods of time. Just keep an eye on the reciever and make sure it doesn't get too hot. The CS1000 won't be any problem as long as you use the built in powered subs.

Speaker manufacturers like to rate the receivers at 6ohms as this gives a higher wattage rating for the receiver. The only receiver I would have any concern over would be the v1 or c1. Even then, your ears will start bleeding before the speakers blow out. I recently had a pair of 90's hooked up to a 400wpc (8 ohms) 800 wpc (4ohms) and the 90's were never in distress.
