I have a chance to get a set of Polk RTA15tl's, but they are in Cleveland Ohio. I am in Washington DC. I don't think UPS or FEDEX will ship to to the weight. Does anyone have any ideas on a reasonable shipping option? I really can't make a 8 hour road trip! Thanks, Jeff

If you want them, make the road trip. Even if they CAN be shipped, the mid-bass drivers will never make it, and I'd be willing to be at least HALF of them are frozen on arrival.

I concur with Hoosier, they will ship them. Have the seller put each speaker in a sealed plastic bag, then use solid sheets of styrofoam for packing, 3'' or 4" on all sides, top and bottom too. Peanuts or bubble wrap will not cut it.

Request some more things for the shipper to do, I am sure he will execute them all in military precision. You could ask if he would have the local priest, stop by and bless them also.

I would make the road trip if at all possible. Perhaps you can re-imburse him for some travel time?? Meet halfway....3/4...something.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    I agree- MAKE THE TRIP

Your taking a sizable risk trusting a shipper. Make a weekend of it, see the sights, get some in a strange bed...:D

I am thinking about the road trip. He wants $275.00 for the speakers. I am going to see if he will meet me somewhere a little closer. If I decide not to get them, is anyone else interested?

Russ a friend of mine has agreed to haul the 15's to KC for me. He works at Nortel there in McKinney and he has planned a trip to KC ~2nd week Feb.

Do you think removing the drivers from the 15's would be worth the effort considering your concern regarding the drivers?

No, they will be fine if transported in a vehicle. The glue used to hold the mags on the back of the woofs just isn't strong enough to take the drops and blows common carriers will put it through.

Awesome, I'll be here - feel free to give your friend my number / email.

    Cheers,
    Russ
