As some of you remember I've had some problems w/ Polk and my signature going away and no ability to post pics. This was annoying to say the least. Thankfully after the new year things got a bit resolved w/ the sig and now trying to post pics again. Forgive the bloated sig that I will redo at some time but the pics are way more important.

As you can see pix are still way to big and distorted. I went over how to reduce pix w/ Cablevision and sometimes it worked and others as you see does not. Also now I have to crop each picture as before it was point shoot post. This still sucks.

You should be able to change the resolution of the pics your camera takes before taking the picture. Shoot some at lowest size with camera for things that you know you are going to post to the forum. You can also use the paint program if using a windows computer to resize any image to a smaller size that will be ok to upload.

I can understand the size but distorted? What does that have to do anything?

You can edit the JPGs with almost any image editor (e.g., Microsoft Office Picture Manager) to reduce the size.
Alternatively, upload your images to a host service - Flikr, Picasa or Photobucket, e.g. - and get added benefit. You can cut and paste formatted image links for BBs like this one or HTML format (e.g., as used at audioasylum). Flikr, at least, lets you choose multiple sizes when you create the image tags (i.e., you don't have to resize the file before you upload). This is straightforward and free :-)

All the cool kids are doin' it... ;-)

    Here's some sample Flikr output:

    11947100234_f00baedf99_b.jpg
    DSCN6268 by mhardy6647, on Flickr

the text underlying this image looks like this (I've adulterated the tags by doubling all of the brackets and added a few gratuitous spaces, so you can see the text):

    url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/42750692@N07/11947100234/img http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2815/11947100234_f00baedf99_b.jpg/img/url
    url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/42750692@N07/11947100234/]DSCN6268[[/url by url=http://www.flickr.com/people/42750692@N07/mhardy6647/url, on Flickr

Best thing about Flikr (besides 1 TB of free bandwidth) is that it'll let you pick the size of your image, to wit:

    thumbnail
    11947100234_f00baedf99_t.jpg
    DSCN6268 by mhardy6647, on Flickr

    "small"
    11947100234_f00baedf99_m.jpg
    DSCN6268 by mhardy6647, on Flickr

    "medium"
    11947100234_f00baedf99_z.jpg
    DSCN6268 by mhardy6647, on Flickr

"original" (800 x 600, in this particular case):
    11947100234_0c4cf51a50_o.jpg
    DSCN6268 by mhardy6647, on Flickr

If you want to, you can even edit out that hyperlink "DSCN6268" by "mhardy6647" tag junk at the bottom:

Listen ,first off understand your talking to a computer illiterate moron. I 1st called Nikon as I have a COOL Pix S-51 and they showed me how to reduce picture size so that's done. Today I called Cablevision and as TNHNDYMAN alluded to going into paint then attributes to decrease the actual picture size save it then post. When posting it 1st it comes up as phantom boxes not actual pictures like before and then I could not preview them or I wouldn't have let those go out. I haven't the slightest idea what the f happened it used to be relatively easy to post and now all my pics are way to big for the site and then I have size them 1 at a time.Another annoying thing is that I sent some pics through E-Mail to friends and they got them fine. There has to be a better way ,yea I know go take a computer sciene class but even then my retention is of a 2 y/o and I do things on muscle memory and it looks like I've had a stroke.Mhardy I haven't the sligtest idea what your talking about ,it's that bad.....Oh woe is me again

Computers are fun to play with :-) Pull back the curtain and snoop around in the code a little bit... Apple makes that tricky, but those of us grizzled old guys who grew up with CP/M -> DOS -> Winders (and/or UNIX/Linux/Ubuntu, etc.) have no fear ;-)\

    FORMAT C:/SYS

it's the cure to what ails ye :-)

... but a hosting service like FLIKR does all the dirty work for you; all you have to know how to do is point, cut, and paste!

a-HA! Finally figured out my problem displaying images in line - don't only use BBcode IMG tags but uncheck "Automatically parse links in text" in the Additional Options below the message draft textbox.

If you pictures in any public site, all you have to use is image tag.
    picture address and done.

Too bad that this forum doesn't have auto resize built in.
A lot of forums let you upload any size but they resize to what's allowed.
Some even preserve original size by clicking on the resized pic.

Are you installing the rings on the FRONT of the baffle?

No ,probably setting the templates and drilling them on the fronts. The rings are installed underneath as they should. I have some great shots of putting together the Neutrik cable, rings ,tweeters all the mod work I'm proud of and it's right there and can't reveal it like I used to.

Look below the text box when you're typing a Reply to Thread. There are two Additional Options: "Show your signature" and "Automatcially parse links in thread." Uncheck that second one.

I tried dropping the box and nothing happened. Boston, my shooting distance is as far away as possible w/ both position and in lens correction.Obviously I'm missing a key steps here to crop these pictures. Again it used to be easy, I have no idea what changed and now maybe calling my nephew on break from Rutgers can sort this out w/me or even my library. You have no idea how frustrating this is and goof zone is over I'm pissed at the world and at me for being so illiterate at this.Oh yea I've been at this for some time now . Any computer Polk geniouses in Jersey willing to come over. I'll supply the beer or whatever. the only proviso it can't be Sunday, that's championship Sunday... I'm kinda like Mhardy; i like to understand so i googled it. below is the first thing that came up. It seems to make pretty good sense but i don't see where it applies to being able to post pics or not.

    Hi there

When you start a new thread, under Additional Options, there is a check box within the Miscellanous Options that says "Automatically parse links in text".

What does this mean, and why would anyone do it - or not?

Is this really a useful option to have in new posts? Can, and should, it be removed from new posts?

    Grateful for your thoughts

    Thanks ... twobob

If it's checked then the link is live meaning clickable, click on it and it will go to that adress.
If you uncheck it then the link will just show up as text.

    Eg.
    www.vbulletin.org parsed
    www.vbulletin.org unparsed

Looks like the local forum s/w parsed 'em for us?

There is a problem with the forum, not with the photos that are being posted. The forum software should be resizing the photos you submit automatically and it should be displaying them in the same area as the rest of the forum, not in a separate window. I don't want to sound disrespectful but I'm surprised that management hasn't corrected this problem by now.

I think I understand what parsing does to foil the BBcode IMG tags, possibly even well enough to try to explain it, but need to test something first:

    tc_7.jpg

edit: No, actually now I have no idea what's going on. I did not uncheck the "automatically parse links" box this time and the image appeared inline anyway. I thought perhaps BBcode parsing of a URL inside a BBcode IMG tag overrode the IMG tag somehow, like by converting the URL to an "A HREF" HTML tag (as I see in the HTML source code for such links above), but in this case it simply converted the URL to an HTML IMG tag. The mystery remains ...
