Recapping RTA 8TL speakers
I have a pair of these that I've loved for years, but recently they began sounding toned over (no chime). I'm guessing they just need a recap, but I should probably test the tweeters.
Assuming I only need a recap... Does anyone have recommendations on which caps to use? I wouldn't mind trying to upgrade from stock, but I don't want to spend too much as I already have another set of speakers and this isn't a necessary fix--I just can't stand to see these sitting unused.
I've only recapped one set of speakers before and they only had one 10uf cap so that was an easy and inexpensive task. They're also a popular speaker (EPI A120) so there was a wealth of info to be found. I don't know where to start with these Polks.

I used Clarity Cap PX in my RTA-11TL's with very nice results and they are relatively affordable. Another favorite around here is the Sonicap. Also consider swapping out the resistors for Mills or Mundorf.
To keep cost down, you can go with a nice quality cap in the tweeter network (Clarity Cap or Sonicap) and something decent like Jensen for the mid woofer network.
There are some other economical tweeks to do also, like Dynamat the mid-woofer baskets.
Oh yeah, welcome to the Polk Forums!

Thanks Stan!
I just used Clarity PX in my EPI A120s and they sound great so far. I feel like those might get spendy in the Polks, but I can't remember which values are in there right now; I think there was a 44uf or something high value in there. Is there a place to find a schematic so I know what caps are in which network? -
Schematics are listed on the forum or just pop out the binding post plate to gain access to the crossover, which is always the best idea just to make sure what's on the boards.Political Correctness'.........defined
